    Hey guys,

Just wondering how hot is the power brick suppose to get?
I have a 1420, about 7 months old. Just recently I`ve noticed the power brick is getting hotter and hotter. Today it`s so hot it`s uncomfortable to hold. I`m on hold for Dell chat support and wanted to get a few opinions while i`m hanging. Any comments would be appreciated

Is this happening under light usage or heavy usage plus battery charging? The latter may well be running the PSU close to its design capacity depending on the PSU rating.

This is happening under light usage with battery charged. Just got off with Dell chat and they sending another ac power adapter out in the next 2 days. Thanks for the response. It just seemed to be getting worse and I was concerned about this thing starting a fire.

what cpu/video card was in your laptop config?

Todays medium powered laptops are no joke. With our power bricks throwing out 50-90 watts of power with no heatsink or fan design, they can get toasty warm real quick. I wouldnt worry about fires, but make sure the brick is totaly unobstructed on 3 sides. trying to strap on something like an old cpu heatsink should help too.
