i have seen in many of the reviews that the RAM of this machine is under the keyboard and some other RAM slots under the notebook. when dell ships where will the RAM installed by dell. i mean under the keyboard or under the machine? its rellay if they install under the notebook as we will have to remove the keyboard to fix it. removing th keyboard can sometimes make the keybord bad.....!!
-
as i configured in the dell website (the xps bad boy) it had 200$ more than the laptop price in my coutry. same config. i revised it many times to verify it - there was 200$+ difference.
ANY CHANGE IN HARDWARE THAT IS SHIPPED BY DELL AND THE ONE I GET HERE - i mean any duplication of hardware - (using any fake hardware) -
XPS M1210 has a quite size of an A4 size paper -
HERE IS PROOF
i found this on a review on another website while googlingAttached Files:

OS Reinstallation (Dell)
Drivers and Utilities already installed on your computer (Dell)
Application - for re installing Dell Media Direct 3
MS Works 8.5
Roxio Creator MY DVD Combo LE
Logitech Quickcam - for Dell notebooks
Soundblaster Audigy Anvanced MB - (if opted for)
AND a few internet discs such as AOL, Orange etc ..... already given to the dog -
OK - I am confused it looks as if I install vista as a totally clean install (boot disk) rather than a customer install (XP running vista disk in drive) I will loose the media direct functionality? That is how I read it.
What will I gain from a "clean install" versus the custom? Will it run faster? -
ok jeme let me try to explain this to you once and for all
first make sure you backup any important files to a cd or dvd r
when you upgrade your os from the one you had running before usually [ not always] it is not as fast as if you did a fresh install and sometimes you have problems with your programs etc...
an upgrade is when you start up windows [ xp or any other version ] and insert the cd for the new os [ operating system ] this gives you the option for upgrade [witch keeps all your files etc...] or custom install [ this deletes everything and you have a brand new unscathed, untouched operating system ]
usually the good choice is always custom install
now i don't know what vista's install disk is like because i don't have it yet
but for an xp fresh install you need to start up the computer with the disk inserted and hit f12 [this should be the button for booting from a cd ] then start up the xp installation once you agree to the install terms [ hit f8 ]
you will see the options of : repair windows, setup windows [and i cant remember the other one ] but the one you want is setup windows , now you should see a menu that has partitions on them the one you want is the one that says c: [ this is the default partition for windows if you have changed your drive letter for windows you will need to adjust accordingly ]
it should also be the biggest partition now hit d to delete it and when it ask for confirmation press l
now you should be back to the menu that has partitions on it , you should now see one that says unpartitioned space highlight this one [ by use of the arrow keys and press enter you should now have the option for witch file system you would like to use select the ntfs system [ not the quick option of ntfs ]
and hit enter you should now see a bar that is yellow and when it is done it will begin copying files for the setup [ this usually takes a while ]
now you should know what to do for the rest of the setup [hopefully] -
OK - thanks wannabeapilot. I know how to do the install - however there were several folks telling me that the custom install I did with vista is not really a clean install???? Not sure I understand that? How could it not be a clean install if it erases the c partition? Thanks
-
If you delete the partition and have it reformat that partition its a clean install....anyway you go about it.

What's up with 4 posts in a row? You can edit your previous post if you have additional information you want to include. I'm not sure how everyone else feels about this but I find it rather irratating and hard to follow. -
OK booted from the Vista disk - reformated the C drive, installed everything and it all works - media direct, camera button everything - sweet!!

good job, now I suggest you buy some good imaging software and create a back image, so you can start fresh at the drop of a hat within minutes instead of hours/days, just update the image every 6 months or so, or when a drastic change occurs

-
Somebody give a good specifiact that will not go more than 1600$
-
Heck - I still can figure out how to post it (I got the snip saved as a jpeg - just can't attach it)- but my windows experience index is 3.4 with Graphics as the lowest and Hard Drive as the highest.
Processor 4.9 (2GHz Core 2 Duo)
Graphics 3.4
Ram 4.5 (wonder why this is low - using 2 x 1GB sticks Corsair Value Select Ram
Disk 5.1 Have 100GB 7200 RPM Drive -
That's great. Thanks. i heard in another topic that an Connetcor for XPS that ill connect this laptop to a HDTV. does anyone know where to get it. Is that thing really working?
-
Thanks ,
Has anyone experienced any other problems generally with the m1210.? -
How is the Graphics Perfomance?
-
The graphical performance is impressive for a 12.1" machine, but do not expect it to run the latest and greatest games at the highest graphical settings. You'll have to lower settings and stuff and you may only get 15-20fps on the newer games like FEAR and Oblivion. But with older games such as HL2 and WoW, it runs exceptionally well.
-
is that 15-20FPS a smooth gameplay
-
I think you are should read some reviews on XPSM1210 and Geforce Go 7400 in general. 15-20FPS is tolerable, especially in RTS games that usually don’t involve huge scene movements.
It depends on the individual as well. Since I normally don't (can't) buy top notch VGA cards I'm accustomed to playing at 15-20FPS, but for those who are used to playing with max detail settings at insane resolutions on high end systems, 15-20 may feel like a slideshow. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
gameplay is subjective, I know folks who get in a tizzy if its less than 80 fps, then I know folks that enjoy slideshows, if its a steady 15-20 I can be okay with it on some games, fps's you want a solid 30, if it constantly jumps from 15 to 30 to 10 to 40 to 5 etc, thats when it gets bad and its chunk city
the 7400 will perform well with decent settings on most games, 2 biggies to watch for in your settings if a game is struggling, keep AA low or off, and keep shadows as low as possible, or off if you can deal with that, (fear usues shadows extensively as a key factor in the game, shadows off shouldnt even be an option in that game), keep em low though, higher quality shadows take a lot out of a card -
Ok. i went ot the Dell Outlet. There it was a Intel PRO Wireless 3945a/b/g. Will i be able to Upgrade to Dell Deaft N' Wireless 1500 from the Intel.

Hello,
I bought a new XPS M1210 (2.0 Ghz) about 3 months ago and I just picked up a new D620 a week ago. The D620 (1.83 Ghz) look and feel a lot better than the old D620.
The fit, finish, and new look of the new D620 feels a lot better than the old version and feels better than my M1210 (M1210 wins on looks). For instance, The keyboard on my M1210 would flex a little when typing but the D620 is rock solid. It could be that the M1210 keyboard is easily detachable and hence doesn't have a solid mount. I have the Gforce graphics card on the M1210 while the D620 has the 950 integrated card. Performance is great on the 950 that I do not think you will notice the difference. It has the same hard drive, ,memory, and CD/DVD as the XPS.
I have the 9 cell battery on my M1210 and I usually get a solid 4:30 min of constant use while the D620 6 cell gives me 4 hours of constant use. I read that 4:30 min is normal for the 9 cell but I am impressed with the 6 cell. I don't think the extra money would have been worth it for just 30 minutes. It could be the graphics cards, and chip that are contributing the different power consumption.
The screen is glossy on the M1210 and can be a little bothersome as you work or play with it. You see a lot of reflection while the D620 WXGA screen has a nice display and with out the glossy screen. If you have the screen low lit to extend your battery life then this becomes more of a problem on the M1210.
Since I don't use Media center that often and I still get the performance I need on the D620 I would just save the cash and just stick with the D620. Of course everyone has different needs and requirements so your decision will vary. I just need a computer thats portable, run some network applications, and mainly use it for presentations and email. I currently use the D620 for work and the M1210 has been used for DVD Playing on trips or my wife uses it. Of course for me any computer will work but I originally bought the M1210 for its size and 9 cell life battery. I am really happy with Dell service and products but for my needs, I would have sacrificed processor and cd drive for battery life and the Lenovo X60s would have been perfect for me with their 8 hour battery life. At the time I was caught up with the MEMROM craze and wanting future vista compatibility and Dell was one of the first. I also thought that the marketed 7 hour battery life of the Dell 9 cell was achievable. My friend has a X60s and it gets a solid 8 hour. I am not saying that Lenovo is better than dell but that for my work and play needs, the Lenovo would have foot the bill better.
I would recommend checking out the new D620 and not compare it with the old D620 as look, fit and finish has greatly improved. You can also save some extra cash but in the end you can't go wrong. The M1210 is a great machine.
cheers, -
Also you have to be careful how they advertised it, if they listed the time with a GMA950 then as I said before there is a big difference. -
for a normal use the go 7400 is enough?
-
Is dell going to release any laptops with windows side show
-
Some one said that XPS will not ship vista. is it true?
-
