After the recent identification of unsafe Dell laptop batteries, I'm wondering if one should use Ebay to buy cheaper replacement batteries.
My concern is sellers may have older stock of recalled batteries for sale.
Or have a 3rd party manufacturer that makes unsafe batteries.
Regards,
Mike

Why ask when you know the answer?
-
its about as safe as buying anything on ebay. request a S/N for your own convenience, and try to avoid 3rd party batteries.

Because I don't know the answers. Sometimes folks on the board can recommend a trusted ebay seller that has legit parts.

Why do you want to buy it on eBay? Is there a huge price difference in price between the ebay sellers and a legitimate online retailer?
I have bought a lot of good stuff from eBay but I dont think I would buy a battery from there, specially after all those laptops bursting into flames. -
I think I remember seeing posts on the board to the effect that buying batteries and memory aftermarket would be a way to save money on a system.

Third party batteries have no guarantee, remember? If they are third-party, then you won't have a clue if they explode or not. Obviously they are not Sony batteries being sold, since you are usually getting it for much cheaper. My experience has been that these batteries (for notebooks, cell phones, etc) work, but that their mAh rating is sometimes untrue. For example, you can get 2000mAh batteries but they last the same time as your OEM 1400mAh one.
Yeah, usually the price difference is huge. In the case of cell phone and PSP batteries, the price difference is astronomical. -
Here is an example link.
