Ok, when I read about the dell audigy HD audio upgrade, it says a software solution. I was unaware that creative makes software solutions for sound. They make great sound cards and I've used just about every line at one point or another. Why don't they talk about this on the creative site?
Does anyone know exactly what this 50$ upgrade is?

50$? When I got it, it was 20$. It's software that lets you specify graphic equalizers, eax settings, bass etc. I turned my bass up all the way and there is a big difference in the regular setting and the one I have now. It sounds better to me.

Sorry, it is 20. Just was absent minded.

its worth it, alot of people have complained because its not an actual audigy chip, what do you expect for 20 bucks?, I tried it with out it, and there is a very noticeable difference
-
Too bad the 1705 only has express. Creative sells a audigy 2 card.
-
Its the software for equlizer and settings -
is there a way to just download the software seperately?

yeah....but it requires activation through creative labs

If you purchased the software through Dell, you'll have to request a disc that contains the software if you are planning on doing a format.
-
Oh and SouthernGirl I just need to email them or call them and tell them I want the cd with the software? It doesn't come with Dell's system restore disc? No option for downloading from creative's site if you ordered it and do a format? -
As far as I know there isn't. It is not Dell's website and it won't be on any of the discs because it is a paid software. If they had it on dell's site, then anyone could it. From what i've seen, you can get the disc free from dell - just like you would with Cyberlink PowerDVD and Sonic RecordNow.
Some user's tried to download it from Creative. The problem is that it requires a key & Dell does not provide keys to some of the software that is on their system. All of the software that they install is OEM, and that is what the SB Audigy falls into. That is my take on it.
Normally with paid software like MS Office, they'll send a retail disc with the key. As far as I can tell, with SB Audigy, you only get an OEM disc. Some users have said that it was in the system discs that they received with their laptop. If you didn't get it, call/email/chat with Dell's Tech Support, and you'll get it free, usually with in 2 business days.

my 1505 cames with the audigy disc and an activation key
-
Okay. Thanks for the clear up on that. I wasn't sure. I know with Cyberlink & Sonic, you don't get keys. I hadn't heard if a key was included on SB or not.

Hello,
If you have purchased the Audigy HD software you will get an Audigy CD in a paper envelope with the activation key sticked to it, so, keep the envelope! If you didn't get it, ask Dell.
When reinstalling Windows, first you have to install the sound drivers from Sigma-Tel. Once it is done, you pop the Audigy CD in and install the Audigy software, which requires internet access for the activation. Ah, it will ask you "why are you reinstalling it?" - well, none of your business...
All in all, I think it does a nice job equalizing the audio, and $20 for it is just fair. It is definitely not an essential add on so don't feel sad if you haven't got it.

I bought the software after I got my E1505 from Creative. Theres a link to the demo version in the XPS M1710 downloads page, it will make your speaker icon turn blue oin white, right click on the new spekaer icon, and select Upgrade. Follow the instructions on screen and at the end, you will be given a product key and a link to download the software. After I downloaded the software, I burned it to a CD for safe keeping.
Can anyone tell me what is the Dell HD audio upgrade?
