I was going to order an Inspiron 537 desktop, but am now considering an Inspiron 15 Notebook.

Dell has a nice on for under $500.

+/- comments will be greatly appreciated

    Thank you,.....marc

great value for money, especially if you go with the pentium dual core model.

feels and looks more expensive than it is.

the 1555 is a great great great deal if you want a high res screen.
    And 1545:you need a T4200 that's 40 bucks , a 900p screen, another 40, a draft n card, intel 5100 is another 40?
I bought this in August so maybe the prices are changed.

And I don't really like this laptop because it's soooo flimsy.
It's not a good idea to carry it around.
But it looks like you just want a desktop replacement. Then 1545 should be fine.

Care to elaborate on that "sooo flimsy" comment?

    Regarding carrying it around.....

I use my Inspiron 1545 every single day, have done since I bought it approximately 6 months ago. I have taken it to work and back in a backpack on public transport 5 days a week since I acquired it.

I would say it get's used maybe 10 hours a day on average (well, maybe 2 hours on the weekend).

I've certainly had no issues with it being "flimsy" in the slightest.

Now don't mis-understand me; the quality of the build is not in the same class as a premium notebook. However, for a budget notebook, it is probably one of the best I've had. The screen does flex a bit, but honestly, you shouldn't really be flexing it in the first place - it's not something that can accidentally happen - and even some of the most expensive Sonys I've had in the past have had serious screen flex with absolutely no issues at all.

In terms of value for money, the Inspiron 1545 is pretty darned good in all honesty. However, if you start upgrading past the basic spec, it might be worth while comparing it to other machines, such as the Studio 1555.
