I have a peculiar problem with my dell. Whenever i watch online video sites like youtube or google videos or sites having high graphic content my computer cpu runs 100% and it gets really slow, that i could do nothing but close down the site. I have a 2.13ghz processor and 1gb ram. Please help me in this issue.

Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super ModeratorWe need a bit more detail . . a number of things could be causing this. I would suggest downloading Firefox web browser and see if that helps.

Have you formatted? If you haven't or haven't optimize your laptop, then you could have 60+ processess running. Also your antivirus/firewall might affect it.

ihave foematted my hard disk..there are 60 processes running and even i tried firefox but the same problem persists...What exactly does optimization means...

andrew.brandon Notebook Evangelisthit ALT-Ctrl-Dlt and see what program is taking all that processing power when that happens.

There is nothing like a good old format + clean install.

Hi , try to stop all program you dont need most ( hit " run " on start and type msconfig to configure the way of your laptop start ). If you set run all at start so every program running at background so there is a reason to slow your computer down !!! Also get into Power Scheme ( Power Option in Control Panel ) set it to Portable/Laptop !!!
-

before you start stoping programs, try and see whos taking all the cpu. Also details on the laptop and cpu would be nice.

internet explorer is taking up all the cpu...my laptop is 2.13ghz,1gb ram inspiron 6000.
-
So there must be some problem with Internet Explorer (maybe it run duplicated ). Try to uninstall IE and use Firebox or something similar ( or you can reinstall IE ) !!!
-

If you insist. Nearly every problem I've seen on this forum starts out "I reformated and ...... wont work any more"

Try re-installing flash player. If this happens only when the site uses flash content then it might very well be the flash player which is having some conflict.

Follow the steps here and redownload and install flash and see if doing this cures your issue.

I also suggest that you have a look at Flash. I have an old computer (1 GHz Pentium III, integrated video card) where the CPU is at 100% every time I look at Flash content on the Web. For your information, I use Firefox and it doesn't work better than Internet Explorer because the problem is with Flash. What kind of video card do you have?

I have a ati radeon x300 128 mb.I guess the problem might be with flash as i faced problems with sites running on flash.
-

look again.. is it iexplorer.exe that is taking all the cpu.. or explorer.exe? 2 vastly different programs here.
-

i am sure it is iexplorer.exe, however sometimes svchost.exe is also taking up some portion of cpu....
Cpu running 100%
