well ok i just relized i have ONE dead pixel on my task bar!!! GRRR, lol no big deal tho. its a reddish one.
-
-
lol if it were me id be sending it back or at least doing some serious complaining to get a good $$ back to me...but yeah that sucks i hate that when i notice them all i ever do is stare at them
-
i have one in the middle of my 19" lcd. sometimes i can't see it. it's green though.
-
I have a red one almost in the middle of my 1520 screen.
I do believe mine would be covered under the dead pixel policy because there is a clause in there that if it is just one or two , it would have to be in the middle of the screen before they did something about it.

Metamorphical Good computer user
Your lucky stormchas, other wise it is often 5+ to return it for a dead pixal. Sorry for your bad luck DarkMortor. I made your thread title more specific to your problem so you will get more comments. Plus, I'm sure there are others with dead pixals looking for a place to complain. That might as well be in here.
-
I would return it. You paid for 12800x 800 pixels, not 799. If others get perfect screens, why shouldn't you? Plus, you don't need a reason if it's within 21 days.
-
if you tell them the reason you want to return it is there is a dead pixel on there and you find their quality unacceptable, maybe they'll pay you some money to keep it lol. thats fine and dandy if you dont mind the dead pixel.
-
Well regarding your concerns here, that dead pixel is it big that is really noticeable like the size of a quarter or its just really small that is not really noticeable, because all lcds have those little dead pixels some of them are not that noticeable because they have different colors and they will only appear on a specific background like if ever the dead pixel is colored green so on the backgrounds that are dark the pixel wont be noticed and if ever the background is light so thats the time you can see them. Basing on dell warranties, they only replace lcds that are more that 3-5 or more dead pixels and if ever the size of the pixel is really big that you can really see it and its blocking the things that is supposed to be seen there. Then that's the only time Dell can replace those lcds. Hope this help.

a pixel is much smaller than a quarter. given he has a 1520 with a 15" 1680x1050 screen...he has a lot of pixels per inch. i dont know exactly how to calculate it. can someone check this?
(1680^2+1050^2)^.5 = # pixels per 15 inches (linear) / 15 = # pixels per inch (linear)
so that number^2 = pixels per square inch
1/that number = square inches per pixel
and im calculating 5.73921028×10^-5 square inches per pixel.
so much less than a quarter. though i bet my math is wrong (or at least methodology to determine ppi is wrong) -- btw i got 132^2 ppi^2.
edit: oops it has a 15.4" screen. i'm not re-doing the math lol. -
Wow nice computations, well I cant really relate on that. Sorry
, Well I'm just saying that if ever the size is really big that it would be like a quarter. Then Dell will really do something regarding that. Here's another explanation from their side. In almost every case, these fixed pixels are hard to notice and do not detract from the display quality or usability. Dell's quality standards for LCD screens are framed to be in step with those of the industry to ensure the highest image quality practicable. A QVGA (240x320) or VGA (640x480) display with up to 2 fixed pixels is within industry standards and is therefore considered an acceptable display.
If you notice 3 or more fixed pixels on your display, contact Dell Technical Support. -
Pixels are smaller than the head of a pin. A spot the size of a quarter would be a few hundred.
-
Maybe he think's we're talking about pickles in the middle of the screen.
-
Haha, if someone has a spot of dead pixels on their screen the size of a pickle... I'd begin to wonder exactly what that user was doing to his screen
-
you mean its not ideal to put a bed riser on top of an lcd screen?
-
No, he's talking about how it's not that big (like the size of a quarter) and because of that Dell might not be willing to do something about it because it has nothing to do with them, it's just the nature of the beast <_<
-
wow okay 1 pixel if thats the real problem... think about the the more delay u'll get gettin it fixed =) a few days for it to be recieved then another 42352523 months for it to be shipped bak to u great deal eh?
-
Well nice one guyz, I'm just trying to explain what I know about Dell policies cause I'm working here at Dell and I know what a pickle is to a pixel.
-
Sometimes what works is rubbing or massaging the area where the dead pixel to "bring it back to life".

Way better to try rather than return and wait for a new notebook..
Dead pixal on the 1520's screen. =(
