Don't worry about comparing battery life - just get the 9 cell battery. You won't be disappointed.
-
If you will be unplugged reliably for more than an hour, get the 9 cell. There really isn't any reason not to get the 9 cell anyway; it sits flush, gives quite a bit longer run time, and isn't much heavier (especially when considering the 17 inch notebook it's going into)
If you'll be sitting on a desk all day, plugged in, then I guess the 6 cell would be alright.
You may want to check the reviews for runtime. -

$50 for much better battery life?
pretty much a no brainer to upgrade to the 9-cell.
(I did)
And if your dissapointed with the 6-cell, it can cost as much as double the price to buy a seperate 9-cell. -
I got mine with the 6-cell then got a 9 on ebay for like $70. Way better!! the 6 is a good back up now

Yes, $49 looks like worth... if you go to Dell parts the 9 cell costs $149 :|
