My D830 has a 90w charger for the standard(6 cell I think?) battery. While my D630 has the bigger(9 cell/sticks out of the front) battery, with the 60w auto/air/ac battery charger.
Does it do harm to the batteries to use either/or charger? I see in the bios settings for battery they say 90w or 60w. The fiance and I usually leave 1 charger in the bedroom, and one downstairs in the living room, and just plug in to whatever one is closest. We also do the same with our older 600M laptop. Since seeing the battery description in the bios, it made me wonder if it does harm(short term/long term).
Thanks in advance.

AFAIK it shouldn't. I use both a 90w and a 65w charger with my D420 depending on how fast I want it charged and how heavy a charger I want to carry.

The battery size is the amount of power storage. The charger wattage is the rate at which power can be delivered (i.e. speed of charging the battery). Use either adapter and/or either battery with either computer.
I'm not saying you can use your chargers with any computer... but the Latitude D series should all be compatible with the same set of chargers I believe. Not really sure about the 600M but that might be compatible with the same chargers too. -
I didn't think there was any issue since Iv'e used either/or for a few years on other inspiron/latitude lappys, just never noticed it said the wattage rating in the bios (F2/F12screen.) Thanks guys.

Just because the D830 battery doesnt stick out doesn't mean its a 6 cell. Look at what it says on the bottom, if it says 85whr then its a 9 cell, if 53 whr then its 6 cell.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The current Dell chargers will work with anything from the Latitude D series and all Dell laptops built in the same time frame. The charger on my D830 works fine with my 500M, and the charger on my 500M works fine with my D830.
With a 65W adapter, the D830 won't run at full throttle and it will charge its battery slower.
