Well I have owned the 1564 for a few months already. I recently ordered the 15R/M5010R for my girlfriend because her 1420 needed to be retired.

    A few specs:
    Dell Inspiron 1564 with a Intel Core i3 I3-330M 2.13GHz, 4gb ram ddr3, 500gb HDD (5400rpm), and Windows 7 Premium 64-bit.

    Dell Inspiron 15R/M5010R with a AMD Athlon II Dual Core P320 2.1GHz, 3gb ram ddr3, 320gb HDD (5400rpm), and Windows 7 Premium 64-bit.

Sorry in advance for the crappy cell phone pictures. Ill take some better pictures when my camera batteries are charged up.

Nice comparison, while I prefer the shortlived 1564, the R series is growing on me. If only they offered high resolution options... :p

billabong08 do you have something attached to the back end of your 1564 to lift it up or did it come like that?

Eh your generation isn't bad. It doesn't help that at one point all 3 generations were being sold side by side as "Inspiron 15"

the 15r feels tougher and with better build quality than the 1545
and i think the 1564 is same as the 15r.

1564 completely different than the 1545 and the 15R. Hard drive/RAM has the door on the bottom, 1545 has the HDD integrated into the chassis with a caddy. 15R HDD is underneath the palmrest. Due to the ridiculous steps to remove the hard drive I'd take the 1564/1545 over the 15R...I just work with too many of 'em.
