So I just received the new Inspiron 15r N5110 from dell specs are:
    Core i5 2410M second gen
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
    640GB2 SATA hard drive (5400RPM)
    1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT525M

I am slightly confused about the graphics card it's meant to be the GT525M but when i go into system specs it says its a Intel(R) HD Graphics Family with only 64mb of dedicated memory when its meant to be 1GB.
It also says the graphics card is a Intel(R) HD Graphics Family when i use cpuid and other applications.
But when i go into device manger under display adapters it says GT525 is there.
So is the graphics card enabled or I am I just using the integrated graphics alone?

PS: I've played crysis, cod4, halo 2 and they work fine on medium to high settings.

    Thanks

That would be Optimus at work. Do you have all the latest drivers?

Basically when Windows detects you aren't using your GPU for intensive tasks it will switch to the Intel GPU to save you battery/heat. But there are many documented issues with Optimus. That's why I asked if you tried the latest Nvidia/Intel drivers. Sometimes it will ship with old drivers.

I also had the same problem and ended up here.
one more thing I want to ask, how do we see the nvidia card and dedicated memory as 1GB after doing the changes?
please let me know the changes to be done so that my card will be used and also in the system, I should be able to see nvidia instead of Intel HD.

    Vijay

    Hi,

I've got a Dell inspiron N5110 too and have the same problem.
I can't make my GT525 work. Got the latest drivers, Nvidia Control Panel has the GT525 as preffered, but in the PCs control panel I can't even find it. I've run the Dell Support Center tests and the GT seems to be fine.
I've tried CoD5, it barely works at medium, SC2 works at medium...when playing 1v1.
    I'm like  :( ...

    Any ideas?

For games open GPU Z and in the sensors tab select 525m and check Continue refreshing this screen while GPU-Z is in the background. Then swich to the game and then to GPU Z. If you see GPU load at some % then its in operation.

Sometimes an app can keep the GPU in operation without actually using it like temperature monitor apps. This will rise your overall heat and power consumption. In that case restart the app or the PC.

Another way to check if no heavy program uses the 525m is to install a programme that can calculate the discharge rate of the battery like battery bar. Then unplug the notebook put it in power saving mode and check the discharge rate. If its close to 20 at times that means the 525m is active.

Thnx for the solution,i think the key here is to uninstall any gpu using apps, then shuffle b/w gpu-z and game.

GPU's are BGA soldered, there is no upgrading unless Dell decided they wanted boards with that GPU. Also the upgrade from a GT 525M to 535M isn't too high...

    Yes !
    Hello !

Actually According To The Setup Guide Which Is Given To You It Will State That You Have A Dedicated VGA Well As An Integrated Memory !

First Of You Try All The Drivers !

So You Can Go To dell.com & Enter Your Service Tag Of The Laptop & See Whether There Are Any New Drivers To Install !

So You Can Try NVIdia/ AMD Radeon !

If Not The Reality Is "You Dont Have A Dedivated VGA ! You Have Only "Intel HD 3000" Or "Intel HD Graphics !

So If You Have Only Intel HD Graphics The Means You Wont Be Able To Play Much Advanced Game Like ,

    Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition
    Hitman
    Injustice Etc !

But You Can Play Crisis 2 But Not Crisis 3
Even Street Fighter X Tekken You Can Play
    And Also NFS Most Wanted 2012 , Hitman-Blood Money(Hitman IV) !

    Ok Then Take Care !
