Does anyone know anything about this laptop? When it's coming out or if it's even real? I can't seem to find any information on it other than this webpage.

It is real. http://bit.ly/2dR5QCx

Nice, thanks a lot! Looks like there's a release date as well!

on dell uk website they are live and ready for order. they look rather good with the i7 hq processors and gtx960 graphics. just dont like the new chassis so much as the old aluminium one.
-
Odd, the service manual doesn't have information for the M.2 drive. Looking at the images it looks like it goes between the battery and one of the fan assemblies.
-
Any chance I'd be able to add a mobile broadband card to this laptop?
-
Not seeing anything in the service manual about one, but the m.2 card isn't in the service manual either so not sure how useful the manual is for this.
http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/a...piron-15-7559-laptop_Service Manual_en-us.pdf -
Yeah the service manual seemed pretty lacking compared to previous ones. I've seen people mention adding mobile cards to previous gen Inspirons but I don't see any extra slots on this new generation. Lots of plastic though so who knows what's covered.
-
Boo.. what happened to the beautiful 7548 slim design?
There won't be successor from Inspiron series like that?
-
I liked that design too. The keyboard was good and I kind of like that there was no number pad. This new one though really is quite a powerhouse and specs alone make it worth the 7000 series moniker. Maybe dell will update the 5000 series inspirons and make those more like the 7558. They won't need major cooling because they will most likely use core U... then again dell probably won't use metal on the 5000 series.
All in all, I do like the direction dell is taking with the new one. It is much more powerful and a worthy successor. -
Wow. This actually looks really good.
-
Yeah, just trying to figure out where the M.2 drive actually goes. The service manual isn't very helpful.
EDIT: Nevermind, just figured out where the M.2 SSD goes. Looks like a full 2280 card slot.
This looks like it actually has a really good cooling system. Three heatsinks, and both the CPU and GPU are connected to all three.
I'm assuming the FHD and UHD display panels are IPS? According to the specs page, the FHD panel is IPS, so I'm assuming the UHD panel is too.
Apparently it has an optional backlit keyboard, but nowhere in the options can you add it to your configuration. Does it need to be ordered separately?Last edited: Oct 12, 2015 -

This laptop looks like a really great deal. I would love to get a new XPS 15, but this 7559 is much more affordable...
-
The Inspiron does a few things better than the new XPS 15:
- Better cooling system (three heatsinks instead of two)
- Better front-firing speakers with a dedicated subwoofer
- 4GB dedicated GPU versus 2GB on the XPS
- One more standard USB 3.0 port and Gigabit LAN
- The 1080p version comes with a 74W/hr battery, while the XPS has a much smaller, 56W/hr battery
- Keyboard with dedicated number pad
- Amazing looking red colour
While the XPS has a USB 3.1 port, a little bigger battery (84W/hr) on the 4K screen option (but without a 2.5" drive), DDR4 and a more compact design.
For me, the Inspiron is clearly the better option and it sounds like the XPS should have been the Inspiron and viceversa.
This might be my next buy. Did anyone ordered one yet?huntnyc likes this. -
Are you sure it is optional? I see it on the order detail for my order, so I assume it is a standard part. Or it may depend on which base version you start on. I went with the one one down from the max spec.
-
It appears to not be optional, as both quotes I received included the back-lit keyboard.
Probably another case of Dell not proof-reading all their promotional materials again. -
Don't forget the Thunderbolt 3 port on the XPS, which will allow future compatibility with eGPUs.
-
The lack of USB C/Thunderbolt is the only thing that makes me question this laptop. Hopefully I won't regret it.
-
The thing is, most "good value" laptops seem to not have the TB3 connection. Other brands are doing the same thing, namely putting the TB3 only on their higher-end models.
As was noted above, the XPS's primary advantages are:
1) InfinityEdge display
2) Form factor
3) Thunderbolt 3 port
DDR4 isn't really an advantage as far as I'm concerned. So you're paying something like $500 for those advantages I listed, while taking on the disadvantages too. -
Just placed an order. Going to take a few weeks though.
-
Mine is supposed to be here on the 20th, but I think I placed the order on the first or second day they were available on the US site.
-
That's the USB 3.1 port I mentioned. Currently I don't have any use of that port and I don't think I will anytime soon.
I hope you guys will come back with a couple of reviews. What colours did you get? Really curious how the red one looks like. -
I went with the all Gray one.
-
I ordered the basic model with the Core i5, so black with red accents is the only colour option. Red would've been cool, but I didn't really need to pay an extra $200 for the i7.
-
It appears to be an ok deal. Laptops from other brands with similar specs appear to be similarly priced. It will really depend on if you can negotiate a good discount with Dell, and how well it actually performs.
-
Looks like I found my next laptop!
I'm just curious how the build quality is like. Looks like some kind of rubberized/soft touch or
do you guys think it's just normal plastic?Last edited: Oct 14, 2015 -
Looks like there is no Displayport 1.2/1.3 support.
The specs mention 4K over HDMI. Which means external 4K support @30Hz max.
Too bad. Was looking to pair the FHD version with a 32" 4K monitor.
-
Did you order from Dell directly or Amazon? I ordered mine on Amazon on Oct 3rd. Just curious where you are seeing a date.. I ordered the i5 as well.. black / red combo looks nice.
-
I ordered from Dell directly. Amazon isn't giving you a time frame?
-
Not as of yet, no.. End of Oct I'm assuming..
-
Just ordered mine today, took out the £25 1 years accidental damage, less the £50 offer and it should have come to £824 but the sales rep offered my a price of £821.56

Thanks for all the info so far in this thread, very helpful and made me confident I've made the right choice and saved myself a packet over the XPS 15.
Will come back with pictures and to answer any questions when it arrives. -
Here's the official promo video from Dell's youtube channel in case you want to see the design in a bit more detail:

Yes, they are ready to buy. I bought this configuration from Dell but it has not arrived yet. $1460.88 Looking forward to it, my rig is a 2nd gen I7 and no SSD.

I've ordered the entry version via Dell uk (699 quid after discount) to replace my Lenovo X220i tablet which was stolen in a break-in, expected arrival on 5 Nov. Overall experience of ordering is positive so far. I'm no gamer, but this could convert me. I was very close to ordering XPS, but it's heat dissipation is the main concern as I use it in bed to watch iplayer a lot (lenovo isn't famous for cooling). I didn't know that the addition of this model is so recent. I will share my experience when I get it.
-
I'll write up a review once I get it too.
I'm (pleasantly) surprised that Dell is including the 4GB version of the 960M in this laptop. I got the base version with the i5 for around $1139 CAD ($876 USD). For basic tasks and gaming, there really isn't much advantage to the i7 over the i5. Certainly not enough to justify the extra $200.
I'd be careful with your expectations - this isn't a gaming laptop. Dell's recent offerings (including their Alienware) haven't been very good performers, throttling while under load, shipping with inadequate PSUs, etc. Hopefully they learned their lesson. This Inspiron model is an entry-level gaming device as far as I'm concerned. I'm just hopping its noise emissions and thermal management (including keyboard surface temperatures) are acceptable.
For anything that isn't taxing on the GPU/CPU, the XPS should be fine. It's when you start heavy rendering programs or heavy gaming that heat/noise become an issue with these thin laptops - they're not designed primarily for those heavy tasks, as their thin chassis and lackluster cooling solutions can't handle the load.
It's a problem many ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte machines (and especially the Razer Blade) suffer from - a thin chassis just can't handle that kind of hardware while maintaining palatable heat and noise levels. -
Indeed, I'd have gone for i5 if this was one of the made-to-order models on Dell uk!
Haha, I doubt that dell 7559 will convert me into a gamer. I was shocked that my lenovo gets hot when I was only streaming online videos! I hope this dell won't break a sweat (and requires full throttle of two fans) for less demanding tasks. But it's good to know that it won't take ages when you need to convert a video or run heavy-going stat analysis. -
I'm following this thread, i'm interested. Let's hope that reviews are good. I'm a little bit disappointed that the grey colour is avaible only in the US and of the absence of the thunderbolt (the new nitro has one)
-
The grey colour is only available on the touch screen models (at least in Canada), and the cheapest model only has black as an option.
Thunderbolt 3 should've been included as far as I'm concerned, but given the pricing on the cheaper models, I'm not surprised. That being said, once you hit a price point of $1500 US+, TB3 should be included in a model. -
Anyone know if the 1080p screen is decent? Not sure I need the higher res and touch, I take it Win10 handles the higher res screens well?
-
Well Dell usually has some pretty nice screens, and most 1080p IPS panels these days are either LG or AUO, and both those panels are decent (I've used both), especially at this price point. The AUO has better colour reproduction, while the LG is brigther.Last edited: Oct 16, 2015

Wish I could be sure on the length of the M.2 slot. Would like to pick up an SSD.
-
From the service manual it looks to be a full 2280 drive.
-
I'm hoping that is the case as those drives are the cheapest ones usually. But don't want to spend 175 bucks and find out it won't fit.
-
Does anyone know if the M.2 2280 SSD Slot is Sata III or PCI/E? Just making sure before I buy my SSD. Ordered my laptop on 10/7/15, still waiting on shipping.
-
mine coming tomorrow -- ordered 10/9 -- est ship 10/22 -- act -- 10/16
-
hey palackan. Can you make a review after you received it
? I'm wondering about temperature when playing some latest games.
-
Nice! Mine updated to, shipping tomorrow and I hope to have by Monday I have overnight shipping.
-
Be interested to hear the overall feedback when the laptops arrive, especially interested to hear what the 1080p screen is like if anyone has ordered it with that!
Also fan noise/heat output when just using it surfing and battery life (10hrs+ is quoted but if its 5hrs+ that will do me!).
Also HDD speed as i'm currently using a 512GB SSD on an old laptop and not sure i could go backwards on that front! -
I get about 4hr out of a 40W/hr battery and a Haswell CPU, 10hr with a 74W/hr battery and a Skylake CPU (which is more efficient) should be doable. Not so sure about the 4K version though.
Also, going from a SSD to a HDD will have a negative impact on performance, even a SSHD (hybrid drive) doesn't come close to a SSD. You could just swap the drives.
