I've heard that the motherboard is easily fried and the harddrive melts after 14 months of use with the Dell New Inspiron 15; can I expect this to happen, or is it just a myth / there's a reason for it?

It'd suck if my motherboard fries in like 4 months :\

I don't think these claims have any substance. There will be a significant fraction of machines that'll fail in a couple months or years, but that's just because manufacturing isn't perfect. The vast majority of machines should last practically forever given the proper care.

This is absolute nonsense; the Inspiron 1545 was only launched at tail end of 2008 / beginning of 2009, so it has not been around for 14 months yet for anyone to even have evidence of such a claim.

Actually, the laptop does not fail after 14 months. It fails after 12 months, 17 days after the third time it was booted, or after 10 months, 3 day from when BIOS were last flashed (whichever is sooner).

See how dumb my statement sounded? Yeah, I would question that source that claims 14 months until failure.
