Hi, just wondering, has anyone ordered and received a 17" Precision M6400 or M6400 Covet? Can anyone post when they ordered and received?

I just gave up on a month-and-a-half old order, and am trying to gauge whether I can actually expect the new one I placed to arrive. The sales rep, of course, will tell you "Oh Dec. 2nd is the worst case scenario, it should arrive before then!"

Ordered 9/26. Gave up and cancelled order 11/5.

Ordered again 11/5. Expected delivery: 12/2.
    (But will it make it)?

Oh and if you ordered a Covet, can you say whether it was glossy or matte screen? There seems to be great confusion on this!

    Thanks!!

BTW you can select more than one option because you might have ordered more than one M6400.

Have you checked the build stage? I just found this 800 number in the "order status wiki" thread:

    1-800-433-9014

Funny that the phone reps can't get the order status, but the 800 number reads it right off to you.

Looks like mine is in "Boxing" which is promising... Maybe when they said they would expedite to make up for their earlier failure, they actually meant it!

If you get yours before mine, someone in New Delhi is going to get an earful. :)

Well, they're trying to help me out since I STARTED ordering back in September and they pulled my chain for 6 weeks waiting on a display that was never to arrive.

    Is yours also a Covet?

I feel your pain though. I've seen a few posts by people who ordered after I did and received theirs, while my first order sat in limbo.

    Hi guys,
I got my Covet a week earlier that the estimated delivery time. Keep in mind that when you call customer service, at the very end you talk to a human! Anyways, the Covet is so great that will pay off for all the waiting time. My config has the LED scren (yes it is glossy with a fantastic color resolution), the extreme Q9300 quad processor, 8 GB of RAM, the NVIDIA quadro FX 3700M, and two FFS hard drives (320+200 GB). I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
Pros: I did not expect to see a mobile workststation with these features: Speed, graphics, thermal design, and looks!
Cons: Yes it is heavy but still portable. BIOS need to be upgraded ASAP, they give an error message in the build in diagnostics, that goes away when you run the 32bit diagnostics.
    More later
    :)

I had three reps over their live chat feature tell me it was matte, two days ago. (??)

But before that, they were all saying glossy. Dell is so confused.

Did your order say TrueLife for the screen?

I see. My order says the same thing for the screen. Looks like the Dell reps are not seeing TrueLife, and are thinking that means matte.

I was told Thursday that it is now "Delayed Indefinitely". I see people are saying both CPUs & GPUs are backordered with no ETA. Joy!

Well that's good at least they're aware of the crap you had to deal with. Yeah, Covet here too, pretty straightforward specs, so dunno what to think. This sucks. :(

Might be your chance to get a matte screen... I did receive mine today. (Sorry about your situation though for sure.)

Mine was a Quad Core with Quadro 3700.

    Ordered 11/3, Est. Ship 11/25, Delayed 12/5.

Communication Chain (I post because it's comedy)

On 11/17 I am told it would ship on 11/25. Ok, cool. But then other people start receiving theirs, so I ask "where's mine then?"

On 11/19 My order is "expedited". Which later turns out to mean that my laptop is now shipping "by 12/5". I ask for a free upgrade for my troubles.

On 11/20 I call directly to get answers (had been emailing). I speak with an agent that tells me my laptop is in Testing and will ship 11/24.

On 11/24 I am told it is done and shipping "in the next day or two", and that they can not do upgrades unless I cancel and re-order. I ask for clarification on "next day or two".

Reply on 11/24 - It is "expedited" again, and I am now told it will be shipped by 12/5. I am now really curious what the DELL definition of "expedited" is.

On 11/25 I ask again, why the delay? They reply that it is shipping today, but it takes 3-5 business days.

Later on 11/25 I remind them that we're using FedEx. They reply "The order once shipped should reach you the next day, that is Wednesday."

Still later on 11/25 I receive a standard Dell email updating my Order Status as Delayed until 12/4. I email again for clarification.

And even later on 11/25 I am told it was delayed and that I was "never promised I would have it by 11/26". However in the email reply saying that they had never promised it by 11/26, you can scroll down to the previous reply from Customer Service which stated on 11/24 exactly "you will have it by Wednesday".

So again on 11/25, I reply with a "This is unacceptable. Please consult with your supervisor before replying and let me know how you will remedy the situation" email.

And finally again on 11/25 I get this: "Please allow 24 to 48 hours so that I would see if I could get you some sort of concession for the delay in the order shipment."

I am tempted to reply and ask for another 30% off coupon. Then cancel and re-order since the price of the system I configured dropped by $500 last week.

Whuff, its been a long wait but it's finally shipped (on a Saturday?)

The original ETA was 12/8, but now the order status page says arrival on Dec 2nd, and the notification email is saying Monday the 1st :)

    UPDATE:
11/26 - Received $200 credit for the delay.

12/1 - Got a call from Customer Service reminding me about the delay, and confirming the new 12/5 ship date. I confirm, and ask for them to contact Sales and find out how they decide who gets theirs shipped, and who gets theirs delayed. Especially now that somebody is reporting only a 1-week lag time from Order to Delivery? They say they'll call back with that information.

3 Hours later: Order shipped. No return call.

I ordered 4 of these puppies late last week (29 Jan) - the estimated date of arrival is 9 Feb. And these are fully jacked systems. But we'll see.
