I seem to be saying this in many threads. So I want to make a new thread to clear all this confusion.

Dell DOES NOT have different part numbers for different manufacturers. Just ONE part number for ONE type of screen.

    Example:
The Item number for the 14.1" WXGA+ screen for the vostro is WK097. Under that part number I have gotten SEC, AUO and LG screens. Dell only views it as a 14WXGA+ screen. THAT'S IT

So When I request a part number WK097, All dell knows is to send me a 14.1" WXGA+ screen...THAT'S IT!

So please stop asking for LG part numbers and so on, such a thing does not exist and they cannot control it.

IF you asked for it and you got what you wanted, it's PURE LUCK, not because you asked.

I'm just getting tired of reading about part numbers because such a thing doesn't exist.

    3 different m1530's
    3 different LCD Panels
3 different DELL PART #s from the service tag invoices from ea machine on dell's support site.
    CPT was part#TM121
    LG was Part # NU763
    Samsung Part # RP636
    I have owned all 3
the only confusion "nightmare" is the misinformation you continue to spread on these forums.

I tend to agree with the Professor here. However, I will hold off on final judgment until the 5 or 6 of us who have attemted to order the LG LCD using the supplied part number discover if it in fact the LG screen. If they all are the LG, I guess n19 will still argue that we all got very lucky....

Do you know ANYTHING about supply chain management?

I talked with Dell Tech Support today and there in fact different part numbers...

I'm glad your confident in what you believe...but that doesn't make you correct.

Does your lack of control with A.D.D. include anger management or is that something completely different?

    Guys/Gals,

To n19's defense, many companies do in fact refer to the same part number for a given product type even though the actual manufacturer may be different, although the industries that I am familiar with that do this manufacture hardware supplies (ie screws/bolts etc. with some manufactured in China and some in the USA by different manufacturers). However, from my limited experience with Dell's tech folks, it seems clear to me that Dell is not one of those companies and does in fact have different part numbers for diffrerent manufacturers.

If you are fortunate enough to deal with a Dell Employee who knows what they are doing/cares enough to follow through, and request a particular part # so they don't have to research it,chances are good that you'll get what you asked for.I think the main variable here is who you end up dealing with.
The point however is that even if you get an employee who doesn't realize what options are available to best rectify a problem, the company does have a specific part # from every vendor that supplies parts to build their product,it is listed in detail and can be viewed by just entering your service code on the bottom of your laptop on Dell's support site.

Yeah n19htmare, you seem intent on posting this in a lot of places even to a point now of creating a titled thread that is simply wrong. I would say that the screen issue is the most common thing people are dealing with now, and what you are posting will cause some people to not deal with the issue as effectively as they could. The detail about this was explained on another thread. You completely ignored it and seem to be on a mission to force your "rightness" on the rest of us. Please just let it go, or better yet, find out the truth and correct yourself. Then you can be actually right, and not just thinking you're right.

n19gtmare only says these things because finding part numbers for VOSTRO 1400/INSPIRON 1420 has proved impossible.

    OKAY?

That's fine, but that's a lot different from going around saying it applies globally when clearly it does not.

You should ask the mods to delete this thread and go back and change your other posts in other threads.

Where's the Dell Moderator? Maybe we need a little clarity here.

I'm in the spare parts/second hand market for Dell/IBM/HP etc.
I sell New, refurbs, and used parts all day long. All the manufacturers, especially Dell, create multiple part numbers for the same part. Whether it's from a different manufacturer, a different color, or a different revision is never clear, many times there are 8-10 PNs for one part.

For example, Dell GX280 Minitower motherboards have 15(!) PNs:
    C7195
    FG113
    G5611
    G8310
    H7276
    H8164
    H8367
    HG280
    K5146
    N8486
    U4100
    W5864
    X7967
    Y5638
    Y6281

All of these visually look the same, no manuf. differences, possibly some Bios settings might be different.

The confusing part happens when you call up Dell and order a replacement part. You can ask for one, but the one you ask for and the one they send might be different. Because Dell subs/crosses these parts, they should all work in your system, but they're not really concerned with which one you end up with.
