I personally have a inspiron 8100 now and I can not wait to get another brand. The service is going downhill VERY fast. I sent it out for 1.5 weeks, it came back not fixed, they claimed my video card was bad and they were out of stock, the problem was and still is my mother board, they are to stupid to diagnose the problem. No more dells for me.

Sorry to hear about this. Being new to the Windows/pc world, I was very concern on servicing. Apple really gets high, positive A+ grades in this dept.

Since buying my Dell 700m, all my problems were user issues - me. And I got all answers from Dell's Customer Service (human, self-help, online and here on this forum.) Their 24/7 on-line support is scary. They monitor and answer within 10 minutes. Not having the situation you have, where you actually sent in hardware, I maybe premature should I have to send in anything. But, again, contacting a human rep of Dell was always a positive experience for me. Maybe you should send them an email and ask for another opinion.

Also, I would not ignore the many experienced Dell owners here on this post. My putting down over $2 grand on the 700M was due to reviews of CNET and the "heads up" from here. One poster said he heard of a new laptop from Dell...I waited and lo and behold, it came, I pushed plastic and I am satified.

In short, please try again. Like any other company, Dell will have their "bad" guys. I, fortunately, always ran into the good ones(male and female).
Take care. Sorry if I went on.

I also have had bad experience with Dell service. It really used to be so good and now loooooooooong phone time and not so good expertise.
I am here looking for a new brand.

IBM Thinkpad T42 or T42p are the best.
