I tried installing the new Touchpad driver and I'm getting blue screen with IRQ error. I had to do a system restore to resolve. Anyone else see this?
-
i have never tried it
btw, there is new gpu driver for vista in support.dell.com, but actually it is same with the windows 7 driver, is it safe to install it
besides that, my laptop will not boot up today morning even though the power button is pressed & there is hdd sound indicates my laptop starting boot up, after i forrced shutdown it by pressing the button awhile then restart, then it becomes normal
is it because my laptop is stressed too much & damages the hdd? sometimes i will leave it 24/7 to BT download or just leave it there without shutdown
anyone here please help me! -
there's no reason why the harddrive should be stressed out yet. It might be a defective unit. Try the diagnostics that were mentioned earlier in the thread. I think the way to enter them is to hold down the Fn key while powering on.
-
i just tried the diagnostics tools and all tests are passed
so means my laptop should be no problem
-
see now, they again changed the basic config.
now featuring windows 7 as basic os.
(only Windows7 Home Premium 64bit and windows 7 Professional 64bit available for studio15. no 32 bit or ultimate version available) -
can we request the 64bit dvd if we are eglible to free upgrade to the 32bit version?
-
can anyone from india tell me what taxes and other charges (shipping charges etc) are applicable on listed price in dell india site for laptop (basically studio15)
while we order it by phone. -
They did not charge anything as taxes.. The Website Price of the configured laptop plus 900rs for Shipping charges.. i even got a bluetooth mouse free when i got mine few months back.. talk with the customer rep and negotiate
-
No tax applicability was any offer when you purchased or its general. i.e. in India no tax is applicable on laptop. As in their site, below price its written excluding taxes and delivery charges ie they will tax it afterwards.
-
I did not face any problems while installing/running the updated touchpad driver..
-
Neither did I, did you completely uninstall the old driver before installing the new one?
If so, check if you have any other drivers installed that could possibly conflict with the installation? -
Wow, checking the "Disable all sound enhancements" box in sound options really makes things sound better!
-
anyone know when the win7 upgrade comes from dell
for people who got vista and got the upgrade to win 7 -
Two weeks after "general availability" of Windows 7, whatever that means.
-
Windows 7 gets released to consumers on Thursday (October 22) so we'll probably see it 2 weeks from then.
-
Its was not an offer.. in general they don't charge taxes.. they just mention in their website as a formality, i think.
-
Ah, but will it be "generally available" right at launch? Tipoo smells a loophole. -
It will be fine. Worst case scenario, you wait another little bit until you get your disc. The world will continue to turn
-
how does HIBERNATE Work? I used it today and it never came out of it. i clicked all the keeys, tapped the power button and nothing. had to do a hard shutdown and reboot to get out of it.
did i do something wrong? -
You should have to press the power button to wake it back up. What operating system are you using - windows 7 or Vista? There was a problem with the release candidate of Windows 7 not waking up from hibernation properly.
-
im using Vista 64
-
Hibernate saves an image of everything in your RAM to the hard drive, then shuts down the computer. You probably didnt wait long enough for Windows to finish shutting down the computer before you pressed power - it takes longer than sleep, but has the advantage of drawing as little power as being off.
-
The difference is really just the power saving, you can hibernate for much longer than you can sleep - which kind of makes sense if you think about what those two words mean outside of the world of computers (sleep and hibernate that is).
As for what caused your problem; to be honest I don't really know if you are using Vista x64. I'd try to see if you can re-create the problem a few times. May have been a one off -
Speed is also a major difference between the two. Waking up with everything in the RAM is obviously a lot faster than waking up with everything on the HDD.
I'm using Vista 64-bit as well, I hibernate multiple times a day with no problems. Like i said, i suspect the guy who asked the question simply didnt wait long enough for it to hibernate, thinking that it would be as fast as sleep, and pressed the power button in the middle of the computer saving the RAM contents to the hard drive. hockmasm, can you re-create the problem, or did it only happen once? Try hibernating again, this time wait till the power button stops glowing white, then try to start up again. -
That's strange... Win7 RC wouldn't come out of Hibernate for me today but its the first time that problem has ever occurred for me. What I usually do, however, is simply close the lid to put it to sleep, and after a certain amount of time it goes into Hibernate automatically. Today I hit the power button and THEN shut the lid. After that it wouldn't come back and I had to do a hard reset.
I close the lid on mine to put it to sleep many times a day and have never had an issue until today. I'm always on the move around my school. -
9 times out of 10 its a rouge process that causes the problem.
I use crap cleaner to delete all auto loaded processes like printers and updates ( why programs need to take away ram all the time with an update program is just annoying to me and necessary) Sometimes its a program you closed that did not close and the process is still running too. -
2 Questions:
Anyone know how long after the release date will Dell Send us Windows 7?
and secondly I've done a back up of all my data yesterday and will again before I install windows 7... I plan on just starting fresh with windows 7 and not trying to keep all my data.. think it will perform better that way,..
So to do a clean install of windows 7 over top of vista how will i go about doing that? I had win7 rc1 installed on my old laptop but in a dual boot partition so i was not overwriting anything..
so do I use the vista restore dvd to restore it to defaults and then run windows 7 disc or does windows 7 install disc come with an option to do a clean install? -
You do not need to use the Vista restore DVD as that'll just clean install Vista which would then get overwritten by the Win7 clean install anyway.
Instead, just boot off the Win7 DVD when you get it. When you're asked which partition to install Windows on, select your existing Windows installation and click Format (takes just a few seconds). That'll basically wipe everything you had before (data, drivers etc.) and when that's done, click Next. After it finishes copying all the Windows files, you'll then have a clean copy of Win7 and then you just need to install any drivers that are missing.
I'm using the RC on this laptop now and here's the list of drivers I had to install. It should be the same for the RTM as well:
- Touchpad
- IDT audio
- Bluetooth module (if you have it)
- Ricoh card reader
- Quickset
- Mobility modded ATI driver (you can stick with the outdated one on Dell's site if you want to avoid all the hassle)
-
Win 7 drivers are already on the Dell support site
and remember you need vista installed to upgrade, you should be able to do a clean install but win 7 will check for that Vista. -
- HIBERNATE -
The difference is that you don't need any energy when it is hibernating since all the data are 'hard-' stored in the HDD before it completely shuts down.
With Standby, you need the power supply or a battery that will keep the data stored in RAM (volatile memory). that's why it recovers faster. -
Just processed my *free* Win7 upgrade, for UK customers there's shipping and tax charges which comes to £15... still worth it in my opinion!
Doesn't look like you lucky Americans will have to pay anything for it though! -
is that mean during the win7 installation, it will check if my laptop is installed with vista b4 starting installation?
what if i want to reformat my laptop in nearly future? -
OK discovered a real bug in the intel graphics card, so many are thinking its the screen, its not its Intel and Vista/windows 7 Areo
the card is GM45 or the 4500MHD or the mobile intel 4 series express chip set.
This piece (of crap) wonderful hardware does not currently have the proper drivers for Areo glass to use BLUR, I disabled Blur to total transparent and its working fine now.
What would happen is sleep or just use the screen would become chopped up and writing on top of open windows scrambled, I thought oh no my screen or Graphics card, no not really, I tried 3 different drivers and the Dell Vista 64 bit worked the best ( the Dell windows 7 driver made it worse) then tweaking blur to transparent I have not (fingers crossed) seen it come back since in 7 hours I think its fixed. Will update you later.

After I installed the lates BIOS update E07 from Dell for Windows 7 compatibility the "Intel Virtualization Technology" option disappeared from BIOS.
Now VirtualBox complains about missing hardware virtualization support and Hyper-V wont install.
It used to work for me. Am I the only one with this problem, guys? -
I thought once you flashed the bios you done, Dell told me you can reflash it back.
What update did you use? The only bios update is A07? It adds SLIC 2.1 table A06 has 2.0 thats the main difference.
A06 bios is compatible with win 7 BTW -
You are right it was A06, flashed to A07.
Windows 7 did work with the old version and VT was available. Now virtualization is gone from BIOS settings. Weird... -
I have never reflashed with an Older Bios, can you? I thought it was one way, but perhaps I'm wrong.
I could be mixing it up with stuff like Iphones you can only flash it one way not back so--------if anyone is sure maybe they will post.
I would hate to see a laptop bricked -
Still no problems after 20 hours of use so far sleep, restart everything perfect, this little tweak seems to have solved this problem.
It must be a driver value issue that Dell or Intel has yet to catch, it may also be due to the LED back light.
anyway easy to fix it seems and that is what matters.
(Maybe I should work for Dell LOL)
-
I got windows 7 professional free through college and my basic Studio 1555 runs it very very well!
-
Mine did too for a while, but all of sudden when it came out of sleep I noticed the chopped up screen, vertically, did you load any Video drivers or use the Win 7 drivers with win 7? then you may not have the problem? Then I could make it happen while using multiple windows and watching a video.
I put on the driver to make sure the functionality was 100% because the generic Win 7 drivers may not include 100% functionality but I saw no real difference anyway.
So if this starts just use the free transparency tweak and it will solve the problem. I did and now its perfect. -
Catalyst 9.10 now available!!! WOOO!!! Too bad it doesn't fix the ridiculous framerates in NFS: Shift...
-
I'm using ATI graphics(In my sig) decided to download the drivers as I've noticed before the windows drivers can reduce performance so just decided to do that..
I've only had my 1555 with Windows 7 for a week due to the hard disk dying 18 days after I got it!Had to be sent back to dell on a Tuesday and got it back on Friday,So I had to use my sisters net book for a week of college
It's a brilliant machine with 7,Quick,Looks nice and just perfect
-
Brilliant!Will download this now
Cheers -
wow i cant even create a new partion becuase dell have taken most of them up
i have
c:/
recovery
"system reserved"
and some hidden fat32 one
anyone know what each of these do? can i get rid of any except c of course -
-Anyone know how long it will take us to get the free upgrade to windows 7? i ordered it on the day win7 dropped on oct. 22nd and you can tell every one else was too because the site was SLOW..
-also, are these win7 upgrades for any computer or are they only compatible to work with Dell's? Reason I ask is that when I logged in and because it was slow, I used 2 different browsers to do so. I then ordered the first upgrade kit and it sent me an order # and then on the other browser right afterwards I ordered another kit using the service # and it worked and gave me an entrirely new order number and then I checked my order status page and it shows 2 kits of windows 7 set to be released, with 2 order numbers...
Im not counting on being sent 2 windows 7 upgrade packs but if I am that will be great, especially if its just a regular windows 7 upgrade kit because I can use it on my gf's toshiba and save a 130, which is always nice because I dunno if she would be happy if I bought her an Operating System for Christmas lol and Ill do that just to furfill my own nerdy fantasys of having a gf on the cutting edge of tech.. lol jk -
I'm sure it'll check the product key of Windows vista when the upgrade is installed?
-
Just ordered my Windows 7 disk from Dell, I wasn't charged anything! I thought I might be as I'm Canadian. But hey, they'll probably hold it at the border for 2 weeks then charge me $25 for holding it.
-
Yea my dell upgrade was free as well.... so you think that the Windows 7 install will check for Dell only vista product keys?
I wonder how long it will take? -
I thought you had to update your bios to A07 that adds the activation keys for 7
