Is the AUO as good as the LG?

What about the downscale to 1280x1024 (to be able to play the latest games) ?

Before the 1555 I tested a 1537 1440x900 WLED AUO and it wans't good at all... colours were washed out and brightness a dream...

Upon googling, i came up with a 135MB file. I do not know whether i am permitted to post the link in here. I cannot personally test it due to bandwidth limitations set by my ISP :(

    Thanks, Mine too is SEC5441....

    My First Impressions.........
As everyone said, the video quality is poor :( .
Right Top portion of the touch pad get little bit hot... Not at all a problem for me...
This lappy remains cool and silent even we are working on it for so long...
Decent sound, it reproduces all frequencies except deep bass....
I installed NFS Undercover, it runs at maximum settings [ 6x AA, AF -On, all effects high...] with decent frame rated without any lag or stutters.... :)

I'll tell other details later... Does anyone knows any way to improve video quality.... I don't think it is a the problem of only the monitor since i can play games in much higher display quality.....

This is really a nice laptop, i must say.... I have a 720p screen..
720p screens of studio 1555 comes with display panels of different manufacturers namely Samsung, LG and AUO....
Displays of LG and AUO are far better than Samsung... Unfortunately i got a bad egg....mine is samsung...!! Thats why it have a poor quality... All the people who have complained about the screen along with me own a display made by samsung.....
Seems you are in UK, Hope you get good displays there. also If you are panning to buy any other resolutions like 900p or 1080p there is no problem since none of those are manufactured bu samsung.

I get decent output in audio playback in all situations...
I'm sorry right now i can't download that link, The total size in the disc i got is 154 MB [but the link given is a 88MB file, right?]... I'll download it when i can and 'll confirm this....

What should I do with my order? The first delivery date was for today but Friday it was canceled. The new order wend directly in production, but the delivery date is 29th! They only offered me 10$ discount. Can I ask for more? Or some free accessories?

You could call and ask for them to expidite it. Thats what I did! Mine was originally scheduled for the 25th but is arriving tomorrow the 16th. I told them I was going to be on vacation at the end of the month and asked if they could help me out by getting it to me faster. The guy expidited the build time and shipping time (upgraded to overnight) for free. Total time for me from order to delivery was only 12 days.

Actually in India, they are just giving away 720p. So all Indians are going to get bad egg displays :p

If possible, can u upload the creative software to any file-sharing
website? I need it for testing purposes, if i like it, i may invest on it. :)

I'm a little disappointed with the maximum brightness of the 900p display. Compared to the WXGA+ (1440x900) LED display on my 1535, it's significantly dimmer.

Here they are side by side (1535 on the left and 1555 on the right)-

Are the LED screens brighter than the old CCFL Screens? Like by a lot? How many "nits"

The screen is poor ~ I haven't stated that anywhere in the forum. In fact, I was wondering "is the screen that shabby?" when I saw those posts. Mine does not have the blue screen problem or any other visual effects/defects. The resolution 1366x768 suits fine. Besides I am not into the "HD stuff" as touted by many other members from developed nations. U might be aware that HD is still in its infancy in India, in fact, this might be one reason why they aren't introducing the 1080p screens in India.

All I wanted is decent performance and I am getting it. Any game of my liking, I am able to play without any much issues. Besides I just need the game to run, unlike some of the fellow brethren, who wants to max out the settings. :) 800x600 at the lowest possible settings suits fine for me (although it might not suffice others)

Some other manufacturers (Lenovo, for instance) lists the brightness rating (nits) for all of their displays. HP also lists it in their Service Manuals (you have to dig for it). But Dell doesn't publish this information, unfortunately.

It's interesting how Dell describes each of the three display options-

720p- High Definition LED Display with TrueLife
900p- High Definition Bright LED Display with TrueLife
1080p- Full High Definition High Brightness LED Display with TrueLife

It seems to be saying that the 900p is brighter than the 720p and the 1080p is brighter still.

Typically, LED displays are a bit brighter than CCFL. The average range of brightness runs from 200nits up to 300nits for LED displays. There are exceptions with 400nit (Lenovo W700) and even 680nit (Lenovo ThinkPad T400) display options, but the most common displays are in the low-mid 200nit range.

By the wording... It's not really clear if the 1080p is brighter than the 900p... it's confusing haha. The Dell Inspiron 6400 I have now has the WSXGA+ screen that was rated at 187nits. Dell used to publish the information.
I'm pretty excited to see what comes. I'll also have a Dell Latitude D810 to compare with. It also has a WSXGA+ screen.

Look forward to hearing your opinions of it. How many days did it take from switching to the delivery status on the Dell website until you received it? Just curious as mine went into transit on Sunday and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Mike - what are you putting on yours?

I am currently playing with the vista 32bit whilst I decide.

This 1080p screen is gorgeous! I got the LG model.

Touchpad gets quite warm and the keyboard is going to take some getting used to but I love everything else about it

Ryesher - have you not had a phonecall yet? they normally phone first to check your availability. But by transit do you mean from hinkley or china?

With the new Studio 1555 Dell has done an important step forward...
With the 1535/37 it was possible to get a good LED 1440x900 display and play at the same time (for instance at 1280x800 or 1024x720)...

... now if we want a good monitor we are obliged to get a Full HD on a 15.6" display and become blind after a while without the possibility to play games in the meantime...
    My compliments Dell!!

Well, I'm sure the 900p screen will become available in Europe too, if you don't like 1080p.

But games? I never can run games in my monitor's native resolution on my desktop as well, but they still look great. Unless the game's HUD has tiny sharp text on it that you would notice blurring when playing on non-native res, there is too much movement in games to notice lower quality due to non-native res.

If you want to be sure you can play every game at native res (with decent fps) you better look for some 800x450 screens. :)

I just had a quick question I ordered a Dell Stuido 1555 with Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi MB and under the Device manger it shows High Definition Audio CODEC is this normal? It doesn't say anywhere about having the sound blaster installed. Did they just forget to install the driver for the device or did they not install the soundcard?

just ran 3dmark06 on my stock system before upgrades.
    @1280x1024 - 3593
    SM2 - 1327
    SM3 - 1462
    CPU - 1740

Doesnt seem bad at all, will try it again once i add the P8600 and new OS.

I ran HWMonitor, as discussed previously the ACPI TZ02 temp is high. Mine reaches 88c. This must be a sensor around the GPU as I watched it rocket during the 3d parts of 3dmark06 yet sit at about 50c on the cpu test.

I will check out the GPU thermal solution when I upgrade and also apply Arctic silver and see if it reduces the temps

If you'll format remember to install the Dell fix available in the download page or the X.Fi sw. doesn't work properly.
