Hi, I started up my Vostro 1400 a few days ago, and was greeted with a floating dialogue box from the Dell battery meter which advised me that my battery was "nearing the end of its useable life", and that it would be a wise idea to replace it.
The Laptop is about 7 months old and gets charged/flattened about 2 times a day. Should this be expected? I have noticed the battery doesn't hold a charge for as long as it used to... But I've never kept a notebook this long before!

2 times a day is definitely high usage. You can possibly get it under warranty still from Dell.
Are you just charging/flattening so because you can or what? -
Aha! Thanks Waveblade. I had a sneaking suspicion that could be why... To be honest I probably charge/flatten up to four times a day - Just due to having to use the Laptop while out and about and away from a power point as well as taking it with me without the power adaptor to save weight and space in my bag.

Just a quick update: Because my Vostro is less than 12 months old, Dell will replace the battery free of charge under some 'End of Useable Life' clause.
How sweet is that - really didn't expect it, as it is basically all my fault! Good stuff big D!
