Okay, my computer is slowly dying, so I've decided it's time to replace it.

I don't do much gaming, and when I do I'm usually just playing CS : S or something in the Source family. So this will mostly just be for media, and web browsing.

I've been looking a couple Dell notebooks, Specifically the E1505 and Vostro 1500.

    With the following configurations :

    E1505:

    Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5300 (2MB Cache/1.73GHz/533MHz FSB)
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife(glossy)
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory
    120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    Integrated Audio
    Dell Wireless 1390b/g (54Mbps)
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1Yr Ltd Warranty and Mail-In Service

    and on the 1500:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    Windows Vista Home Basic
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capabilit
    128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
    High Definition Audio 2.0
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Year Limited Hardware Warranty with Mail-in Service

They're both pretty much the same price, and I plan on upgrading the ram (to at least 2gbs) .

And at the moment I'm leaning towards the E1505.

But, I'm still not quite sure. The differences seem minor, but again, I'm not sure.

    Any advice?

    Thanks for your time!

    - John.

    go get the Vostro 1500.
CPU: about the same, Vostro is more upgradeable in the future if you want to
    HD: same
    Video card: 8400>X1400
    Build construction: Vostro>1505
    Price: =

    1505 have no advantage

I don't know who considers a processor upgradable. I mean, it can be done, but it's not like it's RAM or an optical drive. Unless you know what you're doing, I wouldn't.

I'd go with the Vostro, but it's a tough call. Either processor will be alright if you're not doing anything really demanding.

my point is Vostro uses a new chipset, thus if he decides to upgrade in the future he can use a better line of CPUs

    Alright, well thanks!

Looks like the Vostro is the way to go, only thing that was keeping me from pulling the trigger was the fact that the E1505 comes with vista premium, but it seems like the Pros of the Vostro outweigh it.

Id actually go with xp over vista, faster multitasking and less demanding on the overall system. But its alot of preference too...

I've heard that, but I've been wanting to try out Vista, and I have an install of XP lying around here, so I could dual boot if I end up hating Vista.

order the vostro, then call dell's support line and tell them you want to upgrade to vista home premium... they will do it for 29 dollars.
