Dell Vostro Laptop

Will a Dell Vostro 1400 or 1500 still be up to par with basic usage like internet, email, and music/video viewing within a year. Or will something new come up and be a big step up that will make the Vostro look slow? Or will it be fine for a college student using it to take notes and such?

 

I think you are misinformed. You can get a Vostro with a 2.2 ghz Core 2 Duo 4mb Cache, 4gb of RAM and a 8600GT to last you more than a couple years, let alone 1 year. The Vostro is a VERY capable notebook. I have a 1500 pretty stacked, and this thing isn't going downhill anytime soon as far as specs go.

 

For such light tasks you can use a 3 year old notebook just fine. If you were a heavy gamer/programmer then maybe this laptop would get old and slow in a year, but for light tasks like you do this will be mooooore than fine a year from now.

 

Which would be the wiser choice? I plan on keeping the laptop for at least 5 yrs. Which will be the better laptop in terms of performance, quality, and durability. I take very good care of my items, so which ever laptop I go with will be babied.

I will be using the laptop everyday for basic, everyday computing. Some minor photo editing and maybe video editing. A good screen and good battery life would be two big pluses because I watch a lot of DVD's and will be using it to take notes on in class. I plan on running Windows XP instead of Vista (personal preference). Can someone steer me into the right direction?

 

my brother have a vostro 1400, and it appears to be very well built. Then I saw a inspiron 1420 which is the 14.1" version of the 1525 (I think). The two looked very similar. The only difference I saw was cosmetics. You get more exterior customization options with the inspiron. Vostro is all black. But from the specs, I would get the vostro 1500 since you'll get a 9 cell instead of a 6. Since you need good battery life, 9 cell will definitely beat 6. More power in the vostro too. Are you sure you have the right specs for the inspiron, the comparison is kinda one sided
