There are many, many threads on this. Basically a lot of the deals came when the Smart Value systems were starting at $599, and those included discreet graphics, larger HDs, 9 cell batteries, and DVDRWs in that price along with 1GB RAM. For example my system was $599 base system, +$30 webcam, +20 bluetooth.

Right now the Smart Value 1400 is $100 more than when I ordered, however it includes 2GB of RAM which is worth about $65 anyway.

 

I wouldn't trust what you see, some people might just say they got a "awesome" deal when in reality, they paid $500 more

 

Well do you think there are any chances that Dell SB will come out with a coupon tonight... The Rumor of the $550 coupons looks tempting on the inspirons but the the problem is the the "free" RAM and HD upgrade they are having is over today... zfactor received an amazing deal with a "mystery" coupon... The configuration for my 1500 comes out to about $1512 before taxes...I only want to spent $1500 with tax... This is my goal for today before i order....

 

Small business doesn't normally use coupons. An exception was the 25% off mystery coupon that was mailed out.

 

Now this is just ignorant of you to say. People on this forum have been discussing publically visible and advertised Vostro pricing for a month now. There is no group of shady people here trying to mislead others on pricing information.

 

Boy would I love to get my hands on one of those coupons!

Anyways, the reality-based reason you can't get such a good deal as we did is because they changed the smart value deal(s) since we placed our orders. I assume it was suppose to create buzz for the sweet new set of laptops. I find the new SmartValue deal very hard to fit my needs into a $800 budget. However, I already got my laptop with specs that I couldn't ask more from with the old smartvalue.

 

You guys should also post what country you are purchasing in...different deals available in US/Canada/overseas.

I just ordered C2D 7100, 1GB RAM, 8600GT, 15.4" 1440x900, 80GB HD, XP Home, 9-cell battery, DVD-RW, standard wireless for 1029+tax. I'm in Canada - unfortunately we have some higher prices despite the exchange rate. This was still $60 below the price online, though.

i took advantage of the 25% off mystery coupon and made sure to configure it the right way.. then i had been mailed a 10% off coupon for dell business
(previous issue my brither in law had with his company i think thats why we got this one and it was able to stack) .. i added that in there by calling in the order (which it said i had to do to use it), then i got the first 50$ off credit.. i then got a second 50$ off one which let me tell you i had to work to get the second one.. all in all it turned out well imo

 

In Canada I got the one in my sig plus a 3 year return to depot warranty for $1696, with taxes in...Damn Canada and their taxes...and lack of coupons/education discounts...

 

They won't do you any good since they died out on aug 1 IIRC.
