I got a Vostro 1500 a few days ago. It seems the power cable is reasonably loose. It stays in - but any gentle tug and it comes out.

I've owned an inspiron before - but this seems a lot looser? Is it just my laptop - or is it a general problem with vostros?

Might be specific to yours. Mine is tight. I actually can move my laptop a bit pusing it in.

Mine is decently loose--the plug will stay in if I move it, but I can also easily remove it, as if there's almost no resistance.

EDIT: Scratch that, must be my brains playing tricks on me. I just tried to remove it and it is pretty tight.

I just got my Vostro 1500 a few days ago. I thought the same thing. I then used some force. Just as I thought it was going to break, it went in.
    Tight now.
