Ummm...What's the catch with these? I've got the 14" configured with Santa Rosa 1.6Ghz, WXGA+ TrueLife, 1GB RAM, GeForce 8400, 120GB HD for $689. Much, much cheaper than the Inspiron 14" with similar specs. Is there any difference betrween the 2?

i dont know why the delay either on the processors because the inspirons use the same one and their is no delay time, i hope it is just a website error or something.

How much different is the build quality on the Vostro compared to the Latitude? The price difference seems minimal between comparable Vostros and Latitudes so I don't know why someone would select a down-market product to save $100-$150. Unless I'm missing something, it seems that Dell has created a laptop brand that competes with the Latitude but not that well.

Wow, these are some serious bargains. I am bitterly disapointed you can't configure them with Vista Home Premium, though. You can't on Dell.ca, at least.

why do people keep saying the vostro is the same build material as inspiron. That is not the case.

Vostro is cheaper, but without the coupons, Inspiron comes out to be cheaper.

If people do not care about having better build quality or business level support, then choose the Inspiron. Personally, I would choose the Vostro line.

not necessarily true. ive been looking for a cheap notebook with a c2d and 8600gt. the inspiron 1520 comes out to $1100 and the vostro 1500 comes out to $780. the only difference i see the chassis and lack of bloatware

i always thought that the 1520 is magnesium alloy build with hard plastic on top. is this not the case?
and whats the vostro build like thats so much better?

Thats what has been said in a few reviews floating around the internet. I don't think that Dell states anywhere directly on their site that they're made from magnesium alloy though

it says magnesium alloy when you click on their flash demo of the inspiron line, the part where you can select the color, the second option is to select the matt finish, it says right on there. But it only indicates the cover being magnesium alloy.

WAAAAIIIIT JUST A SECOND. Now im confused. Is vostro worse or better or the same quality as the 1520's. I don't get it. I can get a 512 ram (upgrade on newegg) get the 120 hdd (i'll never use 160), and get everything else the same as my 1520 for $850 where as my 1520 cost me 1070 (before tax). I don't get it. Am I spending more money for nothing?

from what i hear they are almost identical. if anything i would imagine the vostro is slightly better because of it being a business line.

What shall I do. Seriously, is there any difference between them except the black keyboard.

I called spoke to a rep. anyone can order a vosto. No tax id # or any proof at all that you are a small business...it doesn't matter. She said as far a quality goes, inspiron is below the vostro. She said on a quality chart Inspiron is at the bottom, then vostro, then lattitude, then xps. im going to cancel my 1520 order and get the EXACT same thing for 250 less.

I spent a lot of time on this forum to check for inspiron 1520 and just when I made my mind to go for it ,the DELL is out with VOSTRO 1500 .Seems to have the same config but has confused me .
The T5470 processor is nowhere mentioned on intel's site .
Is it santa rosa (I think so)???
    Is it better than T5250?
Finally which is better T5250 or Vostro 1500.

Is it much cheaper in US .I dont think it is cheap here in INDIA .Except for
T5470 in place of T5250 (both base config) .The same config of vostro 1500 in india is about Rs2000 more than inspiron 1520.

I could still get a better PC then the 1521, for potentially cheaper or same price. The only difference would be a smaller hardrive, but I had a 80 gig for 5 years and never filled it.
