Here are the two latptops with the key features of both

That's a difference of over 300 pounds. What is the difference between the two laptops?

Why would anyone choose the Inspiron over the Vostro?

    Thanks

hmm... i'm not entirely sure that's correct... in the U.S., the price difference is a maximum of 100 USD at base specs.
Perhaps the dell care pushed the inspiron price up in your comparison?

In germany it's the same. The vostros here are cheaper than their inspiron counterparts. I asked a dell guy why they do this and he told me it was the decision of the dell marketing and that he couldn't give any further information on this.

Hey , I suggest you to upgrade your Inspiron alittle like better CPU and etc to about 1,300 dollars or alittle more. Then you could use the coupon on this site by selecting the dell coupon tab and it would be like 300 dollars cheaper. You get better performance then the vostros.

I have a feeling that the Vostros are slightly lower-quality in terms of build and materials. As a result, Dell can market them as an economical business solution for people looking for a strong performer without regard to aesthetics. The Inspiron, more of a home/media notebook, takes into account exterior design and durability.

That's the complete opposite of what everyone else has been saying.

I want to go with a Vostro, because it is cheaper and comes in a nice clean black. Though, I would like to laser etch my laptop, and it wouldn't turn out on black, and I like some of the media functions you can add to the Inspiron, so I'm stuck in quite the predicament. Plus the color I want, Red, is delayed. Also, I want XP, but I hear it will be phased out next year, so it may be a waste to pay for Vista later.

Both laptops have there positives and negatives. I'm stuck.

How'd you get a Vostro priced so low with that configuration? Coupon codes? Because when I tried to get the specs you did, the prices was higher than a comparable Inspiron.

They are exactly the same, except you have a few different options for each.

In the US, there are frequent Inspiron coupons which cause the higher-end Inspiron 1520's to be cheaper than similarly configured vostros.

Vostros seem to be cheaper in the lower end configurations.

Hmm. I configured my system below, except as a Vostro 1500, and it came out to $1765 before tax and coupons/discounts, although that was with a 5400RPM drive.

If you take into account the $50 for the color and $50 for the faster drive, the vostro would be $12 less - essentially identical prices.

Only you can get much better coupons on the Inspiron.

I don't have one, but it's the only justification I can come up with for the huge price disparity.
