I, like many others, ordered an Inspiron 1520 with the glossy hi-res 1440x900 LCD screen, only to find out that there was a pretty big shortage on that configuration, resulting in a big delay on the ship date.

In the past few days, if you were to configure a laptop, a link displayed under the WXGA+ screen indicating a shipping delay if you were to select that item. I think it said 8 days or so. Now, 7/20, that link has disappeared.

Does that mean my order on 7/13 should actually be built now?

Or did Dell simply remove reference to the delay to stop people from asking questions?

I just went and looked. I hope you're right. I had changed my order and it went into the build stage on the 16th. My new ship date was showing as Aug. 9th.

If you configure the exact same system today (4 days later), it says the ship date is August 6th. So that's a shorter wait time by about 7 working days (4 business days since my order was placed + est ship date 3 business days earlier = 7 business days shorter wait time)

I am breaking out the rosary beads and lighting some candles now in hopes my 1520 goes to shipping today or tomorrow and I get it on Monday.

As far as I know it's just been the LCD screens holding things up. I've checked my order status on the automated number about 6 times since I read the original post above.

As of yesterday, my laptop was backordered (est shipping Aug 13th) due to a lack of screens (1440X900). Today it has been bumped up to July 30th at the latest. That might say something about where they're at with the screens (or maybe I got bumped due to cancellations).

    Lucky for your bump, bob_blawblaw

I ordered 7/13, and my estimated ship date is still 8/13. Hopefully that will change by the end of this day.

I just get cynical feelings that, since they quoted the 8/13 date, the team building it will just say "meh, we've got time. we've still got 20+ days to put this thing together. "

I'm tired of hearing that horrible woman on the status hotline saying "the BUILD STAGE." Its partially my fault for calling so often.....but, egghhh.

Give them a call or chat with them online. My order status website date is still Aug 13th as well, but the customer care rep said she sees a ship by July 30th date on my account. I'm gonna go with the rep on this one.
