    Just wondering but is it worth it to get a 3 yr warranty for an inspiron 1420? I was thinking of getting a 1 yr warranty and then renewing it if I think I need to but now I'm not so sure anymore =/ Does anyone know if it's more expensive for renewal or what their policy is? I tried looking it up but it said I had to enter some sort of code which I didn't have...

    -is in college and would like her laptop to last the next 3 yrs-

    I think I'm pretty careful with a laptop myself, but as a friend pointed out someone else is just as likely to spill a drink on my laptop or some such....

    Thanks in advance for the help. :)

    I have extended my 1 year warranty to 3 years for $129 before. So it is probably about the same.

    warranties are NECESSARY if you want this laptop last more than one year.

    Let me tell you my story on my old notebook from 2004. A month before the 1 year ran out I called and they said a 2 year extension would be $129 or something. So I saved up $129, called back in 3 weeks and they were like "Ok sir that'll be $300" I'm like WHATTTT???!?!?! and complained my ass off and got the original price

    My 3yrs total coverage warranty on my Dell 700m has currently saved me $1600. So for me it was worth it 5 times over!

    I wouldn't say they're completely necessary if you want a laptop to last more than one year. I know I had my former laptop for more than 2 and friends have had theirs for 3 years and counting - no accidental coverage required.

    On the other hand, college/university is a pretty hectic place, especially in residence. My friend had someone spill their drink on his Dell XPS a year ago and he ended up paying $550 or so to get a replacement motherboard.

    Thanks for the input guys! I've read through some other threads about warranties and some are all out don't get one and some are do. Considering this is college though...^_^;

    Trying to speak with a sales rep to see how much an extended warranty would cost.... =) Not sure if I'd be willing to sacrifice specs vs. warranty at the moment, heheh. Thanks again guys!
