Is in-home service/parts & labor worth the upgrade compared to mail-in?
Has anyone had any experience with the 3rd party technicians they contract out to? The upgrade from 1 year mail-in to 1year in home is 70. Each extra year is another 100 dollars pretty much.
I'm thinking of doing 1 year in home, and using visa CC to double the warranty.

It's totally worth it just because you maintain control over your computer. I've had a very bad experience mailing in my laptop and will never, ever do it again if I can help it. If the tech is in your home, you can watch and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid or leave anything undone.

If the tech is a hot girl and can cook... Why not?

Definitely. Assuming nothing happens to the laptop while it's being shipped around, you are still without a laptop for weeks. That's just something I can't afford. If you have the NBD In-Home Warranty then it'll be fixed in 1-2 days without the risks that come with shipping. You can also make sure that they do a good job
Edit: I would also assume that Visa would go the cheapest route in getting the thing fixed, so don't assume that you would get the In-Home service in the second year. You might, I don't know, but make sure you check. -

The last problem I had with my Dell laptop (that they agreed to fix) was an LCD screen that went out. That is now a "user-replaceable part", so they send you the part and I got to install it. Hardly what I paid for in a In-Home service contract.

In Canada they always give me the option. I'm always asked something like "is this something you can install yourself or would you like a tech to do it for you?".

No option for me. I gave up and did it myself after about a dozen back-and-forths via email.
Still waiting for the class action lawsuits to settle so I can get the overheating and lost memory problem corrected on that Dell Inspiron 5100.
In the meantime I'm enjoying my HP dv6000t.
