How is this offer guys? I just had some issues with my Dell Studio 15 Bluetooth card and was talking with a Dell rep regarding sending a replacement when I was presented with this offer.

    Here are the details:

Mail-in Service after Remote Diagnosis (Expiration: 08/27/2014) $181.00
Warranty Support Service (Expiration: 08/27/2014) $48.03

    Subtotal: $229.03
    Shipping & Handling: $0.00
    Tax: $15.61
    Environmental Disposal Fee:
    $0.00
    Total Price w/Discounts: $244.64

Should i take this or wait since my warranty does not expire for another 10 months anyway? I do plan to use this lappy for another 2-3yrs atleast as a secondary system.

Consider getting Complete Care (accidental damage) coverage.

    "Mail-in Service after Remote Diagnosis"

No good, don't waste your money. If you want to get an extended warranty, make sure it is next business day on-site. Sending it in is just a ridiculous hassle and $244 is probably more expensive than any component in the laptop except maybe the LCD.

some warranty is definitely better than nothing, and the above poster is 100% wrong about the cost to replace parts, it can very easily rise above 244

True, but for that price, it isn't worth it. Even if it was next business day, I would still have to think twice.

Only considering equipment failures here (not accidents, which aren't covered by the warranty either), the probability is low if good maintenance is performed and good usage habits established. I'm pretty sure a motherboard or LCD could be acquired for under or around $200.

Warranties are a great way that manufacturers make extra money, especially after a sale. Or else why are reps so eager to offer warranties?
