yesterday morning I had to call dell because my notebook was caught in a loop.. restarting to a system/memory test page. they did a bunch of tests and the dell agent decided the hard drive was faulty(based on the error code) and they decided to send me a new one and then he told me I would have to send them the faulty hard drive. now this is a huge security risk for me and I told them I would try reinstalling vista from the CD and I would call them back. he said if it didn't work call them and they would send the hard drive. I reinstalled vista and everthing is working okay so far.. but what if there 'might' be some problem with the hard drive? should I still call them back and tell them to send the new HD.. and if they do I am planning not to send them the faulty one back as I am too concerned about the contents of the hard drive(nothing illegal just not feeling comfortable with dell technicians examining my HD microscopically). they might end my warranty and I would not be able to get any support from them. is it worth it???!?!? should I do it???

Check the hard drive with a free 15 day trial version of hd tune
It will show you issues if you have them when you do a error scan
