When I check my Dell Inspiron 1720's warranty status under the “days left” column it says the first year ends in Jan 2009 with 290 days left and the days in the first year’s column decreases every day that goes by. But with the 2nd and 3rd year extended warranty column the days stay constant at 712 days and do not decrease when I check from one day to another. Is this normal or are those columns adjusted after the initial year warranty has ended?

Your 2nd and 3rd years of warranty will not go into effect until your 1st year expires.

When your 1st year hits 0, the other column will start to decline.

And they won't decrease until the first year is over because 712 days is ~2 years. If the total was ~1095 then they should decrease.
