Dell Warranty for College Student

How many years and type of warranty should I get if Iam going to buy an Inspiron e1505 for college?

 

If you can afford it 3-years, if not just one because 90% of laptops that are going to break will do so in year 1. If you buy it with an American Express card they'll add a year to any manufacturer warranty and you'll get 2-years if you buy a 1-year warranty for example.

 

I would not get any additional warranty (besides the 1 year) for an E1505.
Visa, Amex (and perhaps mastercard) double the warranty, so u'll be effectively getting 2 years warranty = expecteced lifetime of an inpsiron.

 

I would go with 3 years

 

Is it true that if you paid using visa then you'll get double warranty?

 

This is what I want to know too. I've heard that using platinum cards doubles a manufacturer's warranty, but how? Who would you go thru to get the coverage? Where do you check to see a doubled warranty time length? Does Dell actually warranty their systems past the purchased warranty if it was bought with a credit card?

I personally won't believe it until I check with my credit card company and Dell both. Because, if it's doubled, I now have 6 years of full coverage warranty.

 

I've never even heard of that before. I paid using American Express though, so it doesn't really matter to me.

Yes, it is true. You wont see the doubled warranty on the dell website, you will have to contact the credit card company.
Read the credit card benifits and agreements disclosure they sent you.
I have heard that Amex tends to be easiest to deal with.

Note - I'm not sure about discovercard, or whether both visa & mastercard doubles warranty. I am sure that at least one of them does, and also that AMex does too.
