I couldn't decide whether to choose 2yrs or 4yrs warranty on this deal below. With 2 years, the deal only cost me about $1051 (after tax), while 4 yrs cost me $1212 but it comes with $70 gift card (I dont think I'm gonna use it though). The different is about $161, so everyone think it worth it?

BTW, is it a good deal ($1051 for 2yrs or $1212 for 4yrs after tax) ? Should I get the LED screen?

IMHO its better to take the warranty. If ur MOBO gets spoiled that might even cost about 600.So it should give a head ache free time and worth it.Plus if you want to sell it one day, this might also add to the value.

Its been heavily debated whether extended warranties for electronics is actually worth the money. I believe the consensus was that for notebooks, its usually worth it as long as it provides FULL coverage and gives you an extra couple years for 150 or so. Notebooks have the highest repair rate among consumer electronics as far as I know...so if I were you Id probably go ahead and take it.

You can extend your warranty period as long as your laptop is under the original one. You should go for 2 years instead of 4 in my opinion and see if you need a longer one later.

unless you ebay one for 100-200.

But i would go the 4 years if you plan on keeping it. Most problems surface around the 3 year mark.

Go for four.. absolutely. If it covers everything (accidental of course), you will breathe a sigh of relief if something goes wrong.

thank you for your comment :D

Mine doesnt come with accidental damage and low jack though, would it still good? Btw, what is the different b/w the general warranty at my OP and accidental damage and low jack?

And, is it a good deal for the price? Anything good or not good about the specs for that price?

I heard that 8400M GS could heat your laptop up, is it true? How long the battery (6 cells) will last?

Is the TV TUNERS AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress ATSC TV Tuner any good? Would it worth the bucks?

Oh, I forgot, with DPA Discount, you have to pay them monthly in couple years or you can just pay off all the money one time.

Definitely the LED screen. IMHO the only warranty to buy, if committed, is a full accidental no questions level, that way you have no responsibilities during that time, not worth spending a couple hundred and learning "Sorry sir, that is not covered." Lo-Jack is controversial. Any good thief can take care of a laptop quickly, but it does give you an extra sense of security. You may just want to tack it onto like your home/etc. insurance for a nominal cost in case it gets stolen, and just have an online backup such as mozy.com to get your info. The 8400 will not heat your laptop up much, as it is at the bottom end of the dedicated solutions, which is fine for basic usage and such, so I would not worry about that issue. I do not have numbers for the battery, but it looks as if you may be around the 2-3 hour mark as a guess. For the tv tuner, if you think you will utilize it more than your current tv, i.e. dorm with cable but no tv, etc. than grab it, they are usually under 100 dollars. GL

    thanks everyone.

I think I just stick with 2yrs regular warranty and save my money. Also, I'm not picky about screen (I think :D ) so I just get a standard one. However, I might give it a try to call Dell and see if I can swap TV Tuner for LED screen and just pay the different.
