I ordered a Dell and opted to purchase the $8 XP Media Center Edition Backup Disk. Am I right to assume this can only be used to repair the os? Since I'm purchasing a legal copy of the os (already installed on laptop) is there any way to obtain a full install disk so I can wipe the hdd and start fresh--or can the backup disk do this too? Or will this backup disk install all the Dell crapware back on it?

Both the "Clean XP Install" sticky up top and the Dell Notebook FAQ at

    http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=53625

seem to suggest that the backup disks will only install the OS (and would do so on a freshly wiped HD), and that you'd need to reinstall any other software separately (if you're inclined!). I also ordered the XP MCE backup disk and have heard that it's not difficult getting drivers and software from dell--either online or asking on the phone.

It is an OEM copy of Media Center Edition from which you can do a fresh install of XP.
