I've been drooling over the Dell XPS m1330 lately and have reached a conundrum: which screen to get. It's $350 more for the better screen but is it really worth it?! Also, the more expensive screen doesn't have the better webcam...

I don't know if this will help you decide, but I paid $150 for it and would do it again in a heartbeat... $350 may be a different story, but IT IS a mighty fine screen....

Very few video chat applications support anything higher resolution than QVGA (320x240). 2MP is 1280x1024. So this is pointless.

The XPS 1330 itself is expensive, you pay for the slim design. Is a really slim LCD panel worth $350? That's up to you.

I got the better screen and it looks fantastic. I can't say much about the webcam because I ordered mine realizing that I don't need one - and saved $150. But anyways, the backlit LED screen is much nicer in my opinion. It's much thinner and it's supposed to help improve battery life too.

also, who uses a webcam enough to warrant 1280x1024? 320x240 is fine.

The LED screen is 100% worth it. I've had both types of screens and I can say the LED is so much better. It provides much better viewing angels, saves battery, is lighter and brighter (can even see in the sun). The webcam is ok. I don't even use it that often. I still think it's worth to have just in case you need to do some video chat or something.

yes you should pay for the LED - its lighter and makes your notebook more sexxay

if you are deciding for the better webcam - may i suggest you stop there because :

    1) as the others have mentioned - most programs do not support anything above vga resolution
    2) you cant absoluteley use a 2mega pixel camera for video conferencing simply because of the bandwidth required and its unecessary

for those reasons alone you should get the LED

I would NOT pay $350 for it, though I did pay $150 for it. It's a nice screen, though I bought it for two reasons: weight, and LED will last longer and not dim out like CCFL bulbs do. I still think $350 is absurd, unless you're spending $3500 anyway, at which point, maybe, what's another $350?

The price raise is fairly outrageous on the part of Dell, but I would still suggest the LED screen. The differences in battery life and thickness are worth it. I thought the normal screen would be fine and I ended up returning and reordering.

The LED screen is sexy, but a slimmer lid is not worth the money.
I didn't find the quality that much better in order for me to shell out the premium

I went with the CCFL screen and have no complaints at all. If you can afford the extra cost, go for it. If you can't, save your money as there's nothing wrong with the CCFL screen.
