Dell XPS 14z what model should i go for

I need to buy a new laptop by end of August.

I would love the xps 14 ultrabook but its just too much at about £1100
(is it really worth that much more)

so I thought i would go for a xps14z.

If i look at new items it seems that you can only get the I7 with the ssd which really ramps up the price

I was hoping to get an I7 750gb hdd model from dell outlet (uk) but they seem to be short on the ground so i looked at ebay and the prices are around the £700 mark or £800 for the ssd version.

So my questions are:

bearing in mind the ebay models have about 10 months warranty left ( they are factory refurb models) would it be better to go that route and then try to extend the warranty -can i do that?

or would i be better getting a new lower spec (I5) from dell?

I would like to swap out the dvd drive and put the hdd in its place and then install a ssd as the main operating drive. is this simple to do?
if it is i guess i might as well buy a laptop with 500gb and save a few pennies

You should but it with a Core i5 and extended warranty from Dell and install the SSD on your own. If you want to put an HDD or SSD in the optical drive bay, it should not be that difficult.

is it to get the extended warranty?
is there much difference between the performance of the i7 vs i5
