I got my Dell XPS 1530 today and I am absolutely loving it! Its worth all the fame it is getting! (BTW, the fingerprint sensor is awesome!)

    I have some questions.

    1. When I close the laptop (the lid that is), I hope it won't leave ugly marks. I have seen this happen with lots of laptops. And I don't want that this should be the case with me.

    2. There is slight graininess at the top of the screen both left and right? Is it normal ? I think it is dust. Can anyone tell me how to clean the LCD without effecting it?

    3. There is a partition called DellUtility around 50 MB. Can I delete that partition?

I had be happy to answer any questions related to the notebook. I ordered it on 27th (29th the payment got cleared) and I got it todau, that is 5th June. And I live in India. The laptop was assembled in India only and not in Malaysia, as is the case mostly.

And BTW, for programmers the keyboard is totally awesome. I had a Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard and believe me the keys are better than that (although not placed as such after all its a laptop!)

    1) I'm not sure what your question is. Marks? Where?
    2) If your screen was "grainy", it would be so everywhere, not just in some parts. To clean an LCD, use a microfiber cloth.
3)You can, but it probably contains MediaDirect, so if you blow it, you lose it.

Hope you enjoy your new notebook!

I will clarify question number 3. That partition is the "utility partition" it contains the Dell GUI diagnostics, if you ever have issues with the system just turn the system off and then Hold Fn and press the power button, release Fn when you get to the Dell logo and it will go to the Diagnostics, if you have any error messages just contact Dellsupport.

FYI the media direct partition is around 2GB

Congrat's on the arrival of your 1530!!! ;) :)

When you say *close the laptop lid - leaving ugly marks* please expand? ...I have no problems with my 1530 when I close the lid. ;) It does not leave any *marks* at all ;) :)

Always, use the microfiber provided to clean (well that's what I use) ;) :)

I think they meant the rubber strips on the display. It occasionally leaves a mark but is easily wiped off using you finger.

I find that I've got some marks on the lid... although you can just give it a good wipe with some computer/electronic equipment wipes and it should be gone. Pity that the rubbery surface collects them so damn easily!

Agreed. If you don't count the MacBook Pro, then it's probably one of the best laptops out there taking build quality, performance and mobility into consideration.
