I'm considering the purchase of a Dell XPS 1530, and my preferred screen resolution is WXGA 1200x800.
So I've read a lot about a grainy screen problem with the XPS 1530, and that the problem is the Samsung screens that they've been using at times. I have experience with this problem because when I ordered an HP 8510p it had a grainy WXGA 1200x800 Samsung screen, and so did the replacement one they sent me, actually the second one was more grainy than the first one, so no deal, I sent them both back and got a refund.
I don't want to go through that again, so my question is, what are my chances of getting a grainy Samsung screen if I order n XPS 1530 with a WXGA 1200x800 screen?
If you're the owner of an XPS 1530 with a WXGA 1200x800 screen, what screen did you get, and was it grainy?

i had a 1530 with that resolution and my screen was great. I never checked whether it was an LG or not but I had zero problems with it

You don't have it anymore? What happened to it?

It's also possible to get a non-grainy Samsung. They exist.
Your chances of getting a Samsung or LG screen aren't indicative of what people post here. If you want an XPS m1530, get it. If the screen sucks, have it replaced or return the laptop and purchase elsewhere. There is really nothing else you can do. -
i wanted a higher resolution screen and before I could re-order the 1530 with the great holiday deal, it expired. Anyway, I got the m1730 .... not sure I am going to keep it or go back to the 1530

using m1530 with that screen resolution but never check for where it comes and never get a problem with it.

I'm on that res.
Works perfectly fine for me, and no issues. -
I also have a wxga panel. The original screen that came with my m1530 was a samsung which was rather grainy. Fortunately I got my replacement screen installed last friday and now I have a Chunghwa Picture Tube screen which is regarding the non-grainy-factor as good as the LGs. I am now very happy with it.

Most people on this thread seem to feel the LG screens are the best. According to this poll ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211959), you have a small chance of getting an LG screen with a WXGA resolution.
However, the most complaints have been made about the Samsung screens with a WSXGA+ resolution. There would seem to have been fewer complaints about screens with a WXGA resolution. The least complaints have been made about screens with a WXGA+ resolution, most of which seem to be LGs.
There have also been suggestions that the latest crop of Samsung screens are better than those from a few few months before.
These observations assume, of course, that NBR posters are representative of all M1530 buyers (which they are not) and know whose screens Dell is putting into its laptops (which is unlikely).
In any case, you can always get Dell to exchange an unsatisfactory screen. -
So it sounds like if I get an XPS 1530 I may end up taking a ride on the Dell-Go-Round.

Whey they call them laptops, they're talking about how many laps you have to go round before getting a top (or even a passably mediocre) one.

Ouch!

I have a M1530 with the "CPT141F" screen which I THINK is Samsung( WXGA).
It has a "film negative" effect and viewing angles could be better, but brightness and contrast is amazing. Much brighter than my M1330.
