I am going to get a Dell XPS 1530 but I don't know what screen to get for it? What is the best one? I will be watching movies on it and doing lots of essays and web browsing. These are the 5 options.

Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera [Included in Price]
    High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1440x900) & 2MP Camera [add $50 or $2/month1]
    Dell Recommended
    High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1680x1050) & 2MP Camera [add $100 or $3/month1]
    High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440x900) & 2.0 M [add $200 or $6/month1]
May delay your XPS M1530 ship date
Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1920x1200) & 2MP Camera [add $150 or $4/month1]
May delay your XPS M1530 ship date

Does this mean you will not be playing games on it? In that case, I'd say go with the LED 1440x900 screen. LED will be brighter than regular LCD's and use less power, so you get better battery life.

not too many games, only online games on sites like addictinggames and miniclips.

Then yes, the LED screen is a good choice, unless you are on a tight budget. If you don't value screen brightness that much, you can just get the regular 1440x900. 1280x800 is too small for a 15", though.

so go with the LED 1440 x 900. I'm not really too computer intelligent. I know how to use them, to a degree, but don't know much about the hardware. I would have thought the (1680x1050) would be best, i just assume bigger numbers is better. What is the difference between the 5?

also, i have read that the hard drive gets hot and may be noisy on some laptops. My question is, if I go with a smaller hard drive and then get a big external hard drive would this keep the noise and heat down?

There's nothing wrong with an LED screen for gaming. redrubberpenguin was referring to the resolution more than the type of backlighting.

LED is a great choice, you will prolly be guaranteed an LG screen

btw, does LED reduce the reflections on your screen when the sun shines into the room?

Get the LED and it isn't even close.

I don't even think they make LG LED's but yes, my new screen is sooooooooo much better outside/with reflections. I can actually read text without tilting the computer every which way and without sticking my nose against the screen.

Depends on how much money you have to spend. The best screen would be 1440x900 LED in my opinion.
A higher resolution would not fit with the screen size, that would be way too small and a lower one would not give you the best you can get on a screen of this size. 1280x800 is not that bad though. 1440x900 is the limit.

Look at the thread entitled "Has Anyone Received Their WUXGA 1920x1200 Screen Yet?" There are pictures in the last few pages of the 1920x1200, and absolutely no one has found it to make text to small for the screen.

I would go with the 1920x1200, LED LCD 1440x900, or 1680x1050.

The only people who say that WSXGA+ or WUXGA makes the text too small are the ones who have never actually used that resolution on a 15.4 inch machine.

Once you use those high resolutions, WXGA will look just absolutely horrendous at how large everything is, and how little you can fit onto your screen.

Yes, or may be the ones who pretend that those resolutions perfectly fit the screen are just trying to convince themselves they haven't spent money for nothing.
It makes no sense, if you need a larger space then get a bigger screen not a higher resolution. The guy asks for opinion, I give mine. That's how things work to me. ;)

Anyone one know why Dell UK keeps removing the screen options for the XPS1530 in the home section? They did have two earlier in the week (1280 + 1900) but now they are back to one again - I don't think they've ever had more than two though.
Are there problems with the screens in the UK?

I do some of the same things you will be doing w/the 1530, & have the High Res, glossy WS LCD (1440x900) screen ~ and it has worked well for me.

The viewing has been good. ;)

    That's just my opinion, though ;) :)

    Good luck ;)

I need more detail on 1920 x 1200 resolution ? How does brightness compare to sony FZ series and DELL LED. I want brightness, but 1920 x 1200 is also attractive to me. Why there is no option with 1920 LED or it will out soon? I saw 1920 pictures that people listed on 1920 thread, it does not look like so bright to me. However, LED screen look like higher brightness. Can someone post more screens?
