I have been debating to get a dell XPS or 9100 for a while as my desktop replacement. I need to have a minimum of 1G RAM with 60G 7200 (pref) hard drive.
With current coupon of 20% expiring today the price for an XPS with 1GIG RAM, 60G HD and 8xDVD+ is coming to be around $2400 with 3 years warranty.

What do people think about this dell/laptop and the price? 9100 was about $2100 with similar options

    Thanks

If I remember correctly, the XPS allows you to upgrade the graphics card in the future. Other than that, it's supposed to be pretty much identical to the 9100. I guess you have to look at what you'll be using it for. If it's a gaming machine, maybe you will want to upgrade it in the future. If it's for something else, maybe the 9100 would be better.

I have a 9100, and it's great. Not only does it make a good desktop replacement, but for ocassional (or frequent, if you're strong enough!) travel, it's ok.

It's all about what your priorities are.

The only differences between the XPS and 9100 are: upgradeable graphics card, and pentium 4 extreme edition. If those two things aren't critical, you can save quite a bundle.

    Dell 8600
    1.8 dothan SXGA+
    128mb radeon 9600PRO TURBO
    512mb RAM

I pulled the trigger and ordered the XPS!
