Dead pixels are dead pixels. It's like going home from the grocery store and finding that your tomatoes are squashed.

But - some companies, like Asus, have a zero-dead pixel policy. I don't know Dell treats this issue, and since it has been a year, I would doubt that they might give you a new notebook. It always helps to try, considering that you are still under warranty.

Is it a pixel or a whole line?

I have a few dead pixels scattered on my scren, I talked to dell support and they are sending a guy to come and put in a new screen. I presume if you are still under warranty, they will do the same

a dead pixel will show black or more accurately, be "off". a stuck pixel will show something like green or, as in the OP's case, red.

first, and easiest, is to uninstall video drivers, reboot, reinstall vid drivers. if it's not a driver issue, it's probably your LCD meaning it needs to be replaced.

if you're under warranty, no problem, if not, you'll have to try to find one on ebay or pony up full price from dell's spare parts dept.

Out of curiosity, do you know what screen model number you have? It looks like more and more people are posting to forums with a similar problem (including myself). I have a J9662 and am wondering if there is a pattern...I mean what manufacturer # for the LCD screen, not XPS, 9300, etc.

He said he has a line of dead pixels. This is much different than having individual dead/stuck pixels scattered across the screen. Looks to me like there's a problem with your videocard or more likely the connections to your LCD.

Agreed. Also something to try is to connect the laptop to an external monitor. If it appears there then the graphics card may be going bad. Otherwise it is either a loose connection or the lcd is messed up.

    Hey all-
Can anyone with this similar problem post their screen manufacturing model #? There is a similar thread on the Dell community forum and so far the three (including myself) that have checked all have the exact same screen model #. A long shot, but if there is enough bum screens maybe with enough complaints to FTC or BBB, Dell might recall this screen!

To find out your screen model number, login to the Dell website, enter your express service code, and then click on the Original System Configuration link.

I have a similar issue. My Inspirion 9300 has 3 lines (1 solid & 2 flickering) of dead pixels. The screen model number is J9662.

Pete.q, you should contact Dell support and ask for a replacement.
