Hello, first post here even though I've been lurking around reading about different laptops to choose from until I decided on a Dell XPS M1210, anyways I purchased it yesterday and I decided not to add the A/V package at the time because I heard that the webcam gets scratched up easily and isn't sturdy but I wanted to hear from the people that have the A/V package if it's worth it and what they think of it, specifically the webcam. My main concern is that it isn't stable and will eventually breakoff. My order is still in the 1st stage, would it be too late to make adjustments?

    Thanks All!

I have the AV package, the camera is nice, but don't expect miracles. It is sturdy and well protected by the lid. I don't think it's flimsy at all as long as you don't go beyond the level of care you would take with any laptop. It also seems to guarantee you get an AUO LCD, which is better looking than the toshiba LCD that ships with most non-AV M1210's.

Also one more question, I ordered mine with Windows MCE because I have a version of XP Pro already and thought I could just format and install Pro but I read on this forum that the USB ports won't work unless I install with the Dell Win XP CD? Is this true?

No that's not true. The notebook uses an intel chipset, i945. Something that's definitely not exclusive to Dell.

    To nx6288:

In my opinion the A/V Communications package is well worth it. The webcam quality is very nice, its a Logitech unit and in my opinion, very good and clear quality. I've had a chance to play with the webcam on the Sony SZ series and the Dell one is much better by far... my friend who got the Sony even said himself he was far from impressed by the quality (on the Sony).

And, I fail to see how its going to fall off, the enclosure around it is very well built and protected by the aluminium/magnesium alloy lid.

As far as I'm concerned, the a/v package is great. The camera is always there and works very well. I'm glad it's there.

I read somewhere that the A/V package is the better screen, theres another screen that dell has for the m1210 that isnt as great.
