Im about to purchase an xps m1210 and have come to a crossroad on what exactly I want to put on it. The one thing that is bugging me is the proc. How much of a difference will it make if I get a core 2 t5600 w/2 mb of cache or if a get a t7200 w/4mb of cache. Other than the obvious change in processor speed. 1.86 ghz - 2 ghz resp. will the cache size make that big of a difference. And will it help with upgrades later on.

to be honest most people would probably not use the full capacity of even a 1.66 dual core, just those eccentric gamers a few engineers and some graphic designers. Somthing you will max out is the graphics card, so make sure you get the best upgrade you can. So if it were a toss up between a 1.86 ghz C2D and a regular 2 ghz dual core I would go for the C2D as it will run things like vista when it comes out much more smoothly than the 32bit dual core. C2D is the newer technology so that will also help it from going out of date sooner I.e. 2 years instead of 1.

One more thing. Dell just changed their laptop customization system. So my question is what would be the better choice a 160 gb 5400 rpm hd or an 80 gb 7200 rpm hd. I burn alot of movies, but i dont think that i would ever use all 160 gb of space.

If you don't need the space, the 7200RPM will offer better performance. I doubt you see much of a differnece in CPUs.
