Initial Impressions: After the opening snafu with PC Chillen BSOD the system, I did a clean install with Vista Ultimate and things are going pretty smooth.
    - Fingerprint reader is light years better than the one I had on my Thinkpad R60.
    - The system is a powerhouse. Performance is outstanding.
    - The palm rests are uncomfortably warm/hot. I will have to see how this affects my day to day use of the laptop.
    - The laptop seems to wanna snap shut when you close it. You have to use both hands to gently lay it down or it smashes down on the bottom portion. Is this a design flaw?

    Pictures still incoming..

mmisterio, congrats on the new purchase. DHL usually delivers till approximately 6pm (for ground shipments) on weekdays so I hope you recieve it today. If not you may be able to go to their local hub and pick it up.

Installing windows updates usually causes a slow shut down, but the BSOD is unusual. If I were you, I would just clean install Vista on the machine. It looks like its a software issue and not hardware, however after a clean install, if you still experience these issues, you may want to call in for a replacement.

Question for the members on here:

Do I do a clean install of Vista Ultimate over the Home edition that shipped with mine?

If you will utilize the extra benefits of Vista ultimate and have a legit lisence key, then go for it.

    quick question:

Is the laptop supposed to close with a thud. If I don't hold it down the entire way, the screen crashes down.

This is definitely an amazing laptop.

    Cons:
    - Really warm palm rests
    - Must be careful when closing the lid or it will slam down
    - Touchpad is a bit small will take some getting used to
    - power adapter is a frickin brick

    Pros:
    - Sexy Design worthy of Apple
    - Performance is top notch
    - Everything good you have heard is true

Congrats! I got mine about 3 weeks ago and sold my HP DV2000 to help pay for it.

Now you've got to update your signature here with your notebook specs!

My lid doesn't snap down hard like you mention. Also I got a smallish power supply but maybe because of the LED screen (uses less power) and not the fastest CPU (less power also). Not sure.

Yeah, I am surprised that your power adapter was a "brick". I mean it looks like a small brick, but it hardly ways anything. You did get the 65W adapter correct?

It may close with a slight thud. If you leave the styrofoam sheet that came with the computer between the screen and the keyboard, you should be fine. BTW, I strongly advise you to keep that styrofoam piece in order to prevent your keyboard from scratching your screen.

It's probably better that the screen has more tension and tends to snap shut. My M1330 is about 6 months old now and has lost a little bit of that tension over time. My LED screen still snaps shut but not so strongly. As long as you're closing the screen with 1 hand shouldn't be a problem.

As far as the heat, I have a 6 cell and a 9 cell battery. The palmrests are definitely alot cooler with the 9 cell battery. The whole laptop is cooler. So if you don't have a 9 cell, that might be something you'll want in the future. I was lucky enough to order a 9 cell when they were $40 each for a short time, now they're way overpriced.

Also, the M1330 is a great choice. I've had my M1330 for a while now and its been one of the most reliable laptops I've had. You can't go wrong with them.

I indeed have the 9 cell but the power adapter not only comes in 2 pieces but is gigantic in comparison to most other adapters.

check your computer out throughly and run it through your most rigorous tests so that you can gage if you need a repalacement. I have the xps m1330 refurb can you tell me if I return it for a few defect i am having will i get a brand new one or one from the outlet. I ask this becuase the one I got from the outlet is a T9300 and I don't seee any more on the outlet site so will i have to wait until the outlet gets one or will dell send me a new machine.
