I'm thinking of getting this laptop as one of my options (see: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=180002) and was just wondering how it is outdoors being that the screen is glossy. Is the glare excessive to the point where the screen is hard to see? Do I have to increase the brightness (hence draining my battery) in order to see the screen better in sunlight?

Any help greatly appreciated. Also, anyone who owns Dell XPS M1330, please also tell me how satisfied you are with your laptop as I am thinking of getting it as one of my laptop choices.

its really a matter of personal preference, for some people its seems to be okey, considering the better picture. Other people can't stand it.

I would like to know how each individual likes it outdoors...I normally consititute for the average individual, so if the average person's views the screen outdoors okay, then I am likely to view it outdoors okay.

How about you webtax? Do you have any trouble seeing it outdoors in sun light?

M1330's LED screen is one of the best looking screens I've seen.

I would say I'm extremely happy w/ it.

Unless you have a screen built for outdoor use (500+ nits), most if not all notebooks wont be usable in bright light/direct light, glossy or not.

I have the M1330 and D630, and compared to a D620 ATG we have in service, only the ATG is truely usable outdoors (oddly enough, it does have a glossy protective covering). The brighter LED screen M1330 works better than my D630 in that regards also.

Glossy screens are a matter of preference, but you do get used to the reflections after a while, as your eyes will learn to focus "behind the screen reflection". Colours are significantly better on glossy screens.

If you are unsure, just head over to your brick and mortar outlets and see for yourself.

I use my M1330 outside all the time--sunny, cloudy, and I can see it perfectly at full brightness

I wonder if being short-sighted helps... if the reflections come from some distance away I suppose they are blurred to people like me whose glasses don't fully correct their vision (I am avoid bi-focals by wearing a compromise lens for short sightedness).
