I have ordered a 1330 and was looking at an external drive to go with it. The color coordinated Iomega eGo caught my eye, but after reading some reviews I have a doubt. The reviews said that it was a great drive but that if the USB port didn't deliver enough power you had to plug in the secondary USB connector that is on a short Y at the end of the supplied cable.

The reference seemed to be that it needed 1000 mA, but that for some systems, specially laptops, individual USB ports may max out at 500 mA, thus requiring the secondary connection.

If this is the case with the 1330, there will be a problem because the two USB ports are on opposite sides of the laptop, much further apart than the Y split on the cable can handle.

I know I could use an external powered hub, but the point is portability and I would like to reduce the number of cables and AC adapters necessary.

Has anyone used the Iomega eGo with the 1330 and can speak to whether or not a single USB port supplies enough power. Since the drive is a recommended accessory on the Dell site, I would like to hope that Dell already knows that it works fine with the 1330, but details like this are easy to over look.

    Thanks in advance.

Oh, if not specifically the Iomega eGo, is anyone using any other external USB drives with the M1330 that pull the power from the USB bus and not an external ac adapter??

You could use a USB extension cable (if you can get a relatively short one) to allow connecting both USB ports to the device? Not particularly elegant but should do the job without having to carry a powered hub :)
