I don't know which to choose.

    There's 2 LCD displays
    - backlit LED display with VGA web cam (slim and light WLED display) and
    - the CCFL screen with 2.0megapixel.

Are the 2 made of the same material? Sturdy? Do they look exactly the same, except that the CCFL is thicker?

How much thicker is the CCFL compared to the backlit LED display?

If I buy the one with VGA web cam, when I record videos with it, will the quality differ very much from the 2.0mp? Are they both using the same lens but with different megapixels?

What's the battery life (6-cell battery) of the M1330 when surfing the web, typing a docs and with wi-fi on, aero off for an integrated gfx and one with a dedicated gfx?

If I run Vista Biz instead of Home Premium, what can the media centre remote control be used for as there's no media centre now?

M1330 only has a VGA (for connecting to monitors) and a HDMI (for HD-TV) port. So, if my TV has no Hi-Def (S-Video) and my monitor is DVI, I cannot connect them to my laptop?

And, if I need to connect my laptop for presentation (with projector etc.), what port(s) do I need?

Can the anti-virus bundled with it be uninstalled? Can I ask Dell not to install it, or maybe ask Dell to exchange it for something else?

Does it has an ExpressCard34 or 54?

    Thanks for any help!

What a ****load of questions, but there are quite some interesting ones included.

Since you certainly won't use the cam for professional video recording you shouldn't care too much about the cam. Most chat applications (or your bandwidth) don't support high resolutions since it's just not necessary.

That question about the remote control is interesting. I guess you can use the thing just for the functions of the media player or for your presentations with Powerpoint.

There are many VGA->DVI and HDMI->DVI (et al.) converters available and form my point of view the most projectors which I happen to stumble upon have a VGA-input. You can connect your devices with the converter.

I don't think you can ask Dell to remove specific software, but you should be able to uninstall the crap or to a new clean installation.

The choice is easy, get a LED. If 2mp webcam is that important to you, than you might wanna consider CCFL screen. Either one will sturdy (as well as it can be expected from a laptop), and CCLF is only slightly thicker than LED. The rest - well, you'll figure it out once you get it :) Or you can read the reviews on the thing :)

The LED screen is highly recommended.

Dell states that the upgrade will improve brightness by some ~36%. Though the advantages to battery life are disputed, the thickness and weight are not. The LED screen is approximately a quarter of an inch whereas the CCFL screen is closer to half an inch. Dell also states that picture quality is improved and this seems to be supported by experts at CNET.

    With optional WLED Display: (w) 12.5, (d) 9.4, (h) 0.87 to 1.33 inches; (w) 31.8, (d) 23.8, (h) 2.21 to 3.38cm

    With CCFL Display: (w) 12.5, (d) 9.4, (h) 0.97 to 1.43 inches; (w) 318, (d) 238, (h) 24.6 to 36.3cm

Pictures of the two options compared and superimposed can be found on this forum. I can't remember which thread but ask around, you'll find it eventually.

LED screens look better, and do not suffer from light leakage that is common on many notebooks.

I thought the m1330 came with a timbuck messenger bag now?

Your order has a 14" laptop bag, did you have to pay for that?

Is it possible to purchase through the American site and have it shipped directly to your house in Canada? You could reap the awards of buying American!

    Ok..

    Just wanna clarify...

So.. CCFL and WLED have the same design and looks the same on the outside, except that WLED is brighter, thinner, lighter and does not leak light and that CCFL has a better web cam. Correct?

And, since CCFL is only thicker by WLED by a few mm and heavier by around 100g, I will hardly notice the difference if I were to carry it around daily. True?

When you look at a CCFL screen, can you honestly tell that it's thicker than a WLED screen without using a ruler?

And.. for a student, which version of Vista would you advise? Business or Home Premium? What's the advantage?

CCFL is indeed noticably thicker than WLED. About 1/10" which is significant enough when you compare them side by side but CCFL is thinner than most laptop screens out there anyways so the difference is more in the technology behind the thin build, rather than the build itself. WLED is superior because of the integration of lightweight, energy efficient, and bright LED versus heavy, energy consuming, not as bright fluorescent lightbulbs. You will see a significant battery longing and increased brightness when viewing DVD movies more so than simple web browsing and documents editing.

Yes, the webcam on the CCFL is superior with 2.0MB vs. a VGA webcame (that barely registers 0.3MP, off the top of my head)

The difference in weight between the WLED and CCFL is noticeable if you compare them side by side but its not signifcant enough to deter you from any regular travel. If you compared CCFL weight alone, it would be perfectly suitable for travel around the campus and lightweight enough to NOT notice any substantial weight difference that make you regret buying a CCFL screen as oppose to a WLED screen.

I say its about price. WLED isn't absolutely neccessary but indeed the latest technology to come out for laptop screens. You can save the $135 and invest it into RAM or Hard drive! Simply put it, its a luxury item if one can afford it.

I'm a student too, with Vista Premium, you get the same stuff as business like ability to manage information easily, advanced security features that come standard, but business is geared more for the working class adult which is why awesome stuff like windows media center and windows enhanced aero interface is left out. you can edit and play videos, DVD, blueray and listen to music with WMC. i'm sure you could do the same with business but its not as great as doing it in premium.

Go with premium and save $89 :)

    Thanks Phead128!

    You've been a great help! :)

I realise that school laptops usually come with Vista Business. Why is this so?

I've also heard that Vista business is capable of supporting more then 5 ip in the network which Home Premium can't. What's the use of this? Do I need it to enter the school's intranet or something?

And, does anyone knows what's the specs of the bluetooth mouse when configuring?
