I placed an order for 2 M1530s on 11/18, with an estimated ship date of today (11/26). They are still in the "Build" stage according to the automated system, but it is no lnoger giving me an estimated ship date, so I called to speak to a live person to find out what is going on with my order. I was informed that the new estimated ship date for me order is 12/16!!!! I asked whether there was a component issue or something else holding up my order, and was told simply that it was a very popular model and there has been an "unexpected delay" that is not related to a particular component.
Since I got no real information from the rep about how my one week lead time became a one month lead time, I asked to speak with a supervisor. During the incredibly long wait for a supervisor, I configured the exact same unit on the website, and got an estimated ship date of 12/10 - six days earlier than the date the rep was giving me on the phone!
The supervisor could give me no answer to my question about what was holding up my order, other than to repeat over and over that Dell is a mail order company and can only give estimated ship dates, and that the M1530 is much more popular than they thought it was when I placed the order a week ago. She had no reply about why I was getting an earlier ship date online for an order placed today than the one she is giving me for my order from 8 days ago. She also said that my order is in pre-production, not in the Build phase like the automated system had told me.
Has anyone else ordered a M1530 lately? Are you getting the same info?

Hi
I had placed an order on 12/2 with an est ship date of 12/10 (today). I received an email saying that it is delayed till next week 12/17. I have heard 3 diff versions of what is happening.
1. The automated system tells that it is in the "boxing" stage.
2. Unexpected delay from a live operator.
3. The laptop may ship out within 4 business days (12/17) as he didnt see any back order items in my configuration of the laptop.
I did some searching and read online that it might be the "Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440x900)" or "THE PAINT JOB OF THE LAPTOP" that has been causing the delays in addition to supplier chain mismanagement.
Has anyone else heard this? Keeping my fingers crossed to get it before x-mas.

Wow- this is terrible considering you guys actually WANT your laptops! I ordered a 1530 12/5 (est shipping date of 12/18), called to cancel it 12/6 (verbally confirmed but never followed up), move into build stage after that call, have been calling since asking why they will not cancel my order, and after getting my credit card company to call them up today too to no avail, I am now in the boxing phase. They're getting free money from me so I guess that's incentive for them to speed up my order though.
I really am sorry to hear about your orders though. I know how frustrating it is to get an estimated shipping date and looking forward to it, only to have it pushed back weeks later
And for what its worth, I don't think its the paint or the LED screen. I *ordered* the tuxedo black and had the 15.4 in LED LCD (1440x900) screen with 2.0 mp camera too. I tried ordering the XPS M1330 when it first came out, and they had horrendous delays. I needed it for college but summer orders were not being shipped until late September - early October so I took my business elsewhere at that time (I canceled that during the production (build) stage but for some reason this time they changed their policy and won't allow people in the production stage to cancel orders apparently). At that time, different people were told that the cause of the delays were because of different parts, and in the end you could practically build an entire laptop when you pooled what everyone in the different forums were saying they were being told -
My xps m5130 order experience
The machine:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
Tuxedo Black Casing
6GB, DDR2, 800MHz 2 Dimm Ram
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LED LCD with Camera for XPS M1530
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
High Performance 64GB Solid State Drive
2X BluRay Drive
I ordered it on December 6th. At the time of order, it gave the ESD as December 18th and Estimated Delivery Date as December 22nd.
In actuality, my system shipped today (December 11th) and Estimated Delivery is now December 13th.
Needless to say, I am very happy -
Do you have any updates on this...I'm just curious...sort of a similar situation with my I9

Sorry to resurrect the dead but I am curious as to what kind of shipping times people are currently expecting for the m1530? I ordered mine with an estimated ship date of 1/23, though the rep I ordered over the phone with said that he expects it to ship much sooner. I'm moving to Europe on January 21st, so obviously the 23rd wont work for me. I told the rep this and he said he believed I would get it in time, that the ship date was actually a glitch and that there wasn't anything going on that should cause that delay. I'm calling on Friday, within the three day cancellation window to see get an update, and if it isn't looking promising I will cancel and buy in person from Best Buy or something.
