What is the difference between the two laptops? I know the inspiron series has the magnesium chassis to help the build quality. But the only difference i notice from browsing the two is the XPS has a lower resolution and the intel wireless N card as an option.

I do realize the 1525 has yet to come out but from what ive read its the same as the 1520 except with hdmi and santa rosa chips. Im guessing the xps has the santa rose chips already?

I assume the weight of the XPS will be much lower. Also, if the 1530 is anything like the 1330 battery life will be much better as well.

Size/weight, style, options like finger print reader, MAYBE LED screen(i'm guessing they'll add this in Q1 of '08), support services and option to configure it with faster processors(up to t7700).

Personally, none of those things interest me OTHER then the finger print reader... and I'm not really interested in paying a premium for it.

Hmm so really there is not much of a difference? the weight is only slightly better. i think the 1525 is around 6lbs maybe slightly more and the xps is 5.9

So i guess it boils down to if they get the LCD with the same resolution and whichever one has the better price at the time of purchase i guess :). the hdmi will be nice for me. Either the damn resolution needs to go up or the 1525 needs to be released :).

The Inspiron 1520 already has Santa Rosa chips.

The 1525 is going to add HDMI, and my guess is that they'll use the opportunity to fix a few other issues that have been plaguing the 1520: headphone jack noise, cpu whine, and battery wobble are among these issues. I don't know what else they might do, if anything.

The main thing with the XPS M1530 is that it's thinner and lighter, has different styling, has a fingerprint reader, probably has GDDR3 video RAM, slot-loading DVD drive (instead of tray-loading). It also has a few extra options, like faster processor options. It also comes with some extra stuff standard, like in-home service, LoJack theft protection, and antivirus software. The fact that the M1530 lacks higher-res screen options is an anomaly that they'll fix in a few months.

Ummm... the 1520 "starts at" 6.4 pounds. I don't really know about the 1525 yet but I'm expecting it to weigh the same as the 1520. The M1530 they're saying "starting at" 5.78 pounds... so it's over half a pound lighter than the 1520. Not a gigantic difference, but not insignificant either IMO.

aww well i guess for me it will just come down to the best deal. a half a pound to me is really nothing considering i wont be traveling much. Well best deal with whicever has the highest screen res at the time :).

will the inspiron and xps coupons work with either? I heard a few people got the inspiron coupons to work with the m1530's. might have just been a mixup with dell though.
