I just rebooted to go to BIOS and disable the onboard audio as I'm using a USB soundcard and have no use for it - when I got into BIOS though, I couldn't find a setting to disable it, which is weird considering I'm 99% sure it used to be there, but might have been removed with a BIOS update(?). I have the newest BIOS installed (A07).

Any ideas? I want to disable it because I noticed a small performance increase already when I just don't have the drivers installed.

The BIOS does not have an option to disable the onboard Sigmatel chipset.

If you are running Vista, right click on your speaker icon in the task tray and select 'Playback Devices'. Disable the Sigmatel Chipset there and confirm your USB card is the active device.

If you are running XP, try the device manager.

You can also set the USB audio card, as the default playback device. So whenever it is plugged in, it will be active.
